Yesterday I bought 12 movies, including the 5 disc Blade Runner set, for $7.50 each using the coupon. The purchases just needed to be rung up as multiple two-disc purchases.

The coupons can be found inside the glossy Hollywood Video ad booklets typically found near the front of the store.

The HD-DVD titles will sell quickly so stop by sooner for the best selection.
Bob, thanks for the heads up on the coupon which made it 2 for $14.99 rather than 2 for $20.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

If any of you belong to Columbia House, they are doing BOGO on all HDM discs they carry (both formats). The kicker is it includes pre-orders!

This thing just can't be over quickly enough for some people!

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

I am at what I think is the Columbia site and I can't see HDM anywhere.

Have a specific link?

Thanks in advance

When you first log in, there's a banner near the top of the screen. I missed it the first time too!

The good news: Yesterday I discovered that one of the local Hollywood Videos isn't closed yet, even though it doesn't come up on the website store search. The bad news: No HD-DVDs or PS3 games. Oh well. . .

Aaron, thanks for your reply.

Adam..thanks for both head's up. At H.V., are the discs always sent in rental cases or do they arrive in the original, retail case?

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

My local HV had original cases for some discs in the back, the rest were rental cases with the original paper inserts. I bought enough that I ordered a 50 pack of original HD DVD cases for $20 (plus shipping) so I could put them back in the red cases and replace a few cracked cases I have.

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

After hearing about some Hollywood Videos (Thanks Mike!) selling off their HD-DVD stock, I got in on the 2 fo 20.00 deal last weekend. Walked away with 10 HD-DVDs at 10 bucks apiece... not bad!

Now after hearing about that lil' 2 for 1 deal (in the magazine) on previously viewed marked at 14.99 and less, I decided to give it one more try.

I went in and inquired about it. The clerk diidn't know. Then the manager came over and pointed vaguely to the fine print and said it was for DVD product only. Hmmm, ok. I guess I don't need to rebuy all the Mission Impossible films and and pick another to keep it an even number. I'll just buy the two I came in for.

While I was in line, I was trying to read that fine print. The eyes aren't as good as they used to be, but nowhere could I find that it said for "DVD product only" As a matter of fact, the only wording I could see was that it said for previously viewed movies.

I brought this to the attention of the manager at check out. She said, "Well, when that was printed, they didn't know that we'd be selling the HD-DVDs."

I pointed out that they were still honoring the other deal (2 for 20). After a little more back and forth she honoered the deal, but only for the two I had in my hand.

So for a total of 16 bucks, including tax, I walked away with The Brave One and Beowulf. The kicker is, that since Beowulf came out yesterday... it was not precviously viewed!

I have a feeling that manager is going to get tired of me before they run out of stock.

JR.com: BLU-RAY DISC SALE

Thanks, Joe!

Might be worth noting for those interested that the J&R sale includes a pre-order of Independence Day (@ the $23.99 pricepoint).

There are also two $17.99 titles thrown in the mix (The Terminator and Species).

Good catch. Even though they are "cheap" for Fox titles they still seem expensive--almost like the regular (street) price of other studios titles.

Getting these titles for $8 from Amazon two months ago, feel more like two years ago now.

Not *all* of them were that cheap though. Even w/ BOGO, many are not $8 each unless you count all sorts of other add-on deals that have nothing to do w/ HDM itself.

Anyway, yeah, this J&R sale is nothing special. Their previous one a week-and-change ago was much better albeit most of them were older titles from generally less expensive studios. I'd look for many of these titles to go on better sales at J&R some time down the line (if you like shopping at J&R)...

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

This isn't a bargain per se, at least not yet, but per the link below Universal will be dropping the MSRP $10 to $15 on all their titles current and forthcoming (except Atonement) on 3/4.

DVD Times - Universal HD DVD Price Drop

I guess it is really up to the individual retailers to determine how much of bargain that translates into, but at least the potential for one will be there.

Yesterday I was wondering if we were ever going to see another BD sale! Now that we see one, it makes you wonder if we should jump at these prices because we might not see better for awhile...or wait it out a bit.

Mike, didn't you forget about the previous J&R sale just a week-and-change ago? Granted, there may not have been anything in that sale you wanted, but I think I ended up w/ a dozen BDs from it -- stuff I either missed from previous BOGOs or B2G1s or one or two titles I hadn't seen in such sales before.

J&R UPDATE!!

A number of those titles which were listed @ $23.99 are NOW listed @ $17.99!

=================

Man: I didn't forget it. I just put it in the same category with this one. "Is this what a BD sale is going to look like from now on? Are these the best prices we're going to see?" Like that.

Those titles @ $17.99 are a heckuva lot more attractive than they were @ $23.99!

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Of course with the J&R sales, shipping and (for us NYers) tax pretty much kill the deal for me. I'd think about Terminator at $17.99,but it quickly becomes $22+ when it's all said and done.

Thanks for posting, anyway, Mike.

If you live in NYC (or commute there regularly), it'd make more sense to just go to the store for the sale -- that's what I do. Of course, if you live elsewhere in the state, then that's probably not an option.

Anyway, yeah, even w/ the updated the prices, it's not too appealing. Then again, there aren't that many titles of interest for me in that sale anyway...

Re: Consolidated HD Bargain Thread!

Quite tempting...

Amazon.com: HD DVDs up to 57% off

e.g. "Ocean's Trilogy (Ocean's Eleven / Ocean's Twelve / Ocean's Thirteen)" for $36.49 and "Harry Potter Years 1-5 Limited Edition Gift Set" for $71.49..

What to do, what to do... Blu-ray-releases are available, but more expensive (at least for now)..

That's a marvelous price on the POTTER gift set, but I suspect you will have to buy the last two films on Blu-ray. Would that matter?

As long as you don't object to 5 movies in a carboard trunk and 2 in blue plastic cases it won't matter.
