how come i now have bad ghosting- blu vs hd

now owning a blu ray and the mighty tosh xa2 .... i am pretty much fed up already with the 301 sony....i do not mean to bash the format, as movies in hi def is what it is all about whoevers wins the war....

since using the sony 301 ..my plasma display suffers very badly with ghosting images.. the power up time is enough to send you to sleep, it leaves the blu ray emblem ghosted for a long time...if the menu is up for a few seconds it has ghosted badly in that time....

i have to re adjust my t.v settings , contrast , brightness with nearly every disc....as either i get ghosted big time or the picture during the movie is almost blindingly bright. i have set up the players settings to there lowest without losing a picture altogether ! but still get that ghosting severely ?

since calibrating the xa2 and display i do not have any such ghosting issues...any ideas...as both formats have my movies, so would like to keep the sony 301,..........thanks

How are the 301 and XA2 connected to the display: HDMI, Component? Are each input on the display capable of holding a different calibration setting?

both connected via hdmi....the display can have one memory setting, and has sports mode, standard etc...... so i use memory mode for the xa2 and adjust the standard mode for the blu ray....

Re: how come i now have bad ghosting- blu vs hd

Try swapping the two inputs then try swapping the cables. See if it is the player, the tv, or even the cable that is causing the problem.

It could be possible that the player is bad, or it isn't set up properly. But it might just be that the settings are different on the tv for the two inputs in some way you don't realize.

Maybe you tv can't handle the faster bitrate of the Blu-Ray player. Are the two HDMI cables the same?

When you say "Ghosting" do you mean a "burnt in image", or do you mean that when something moves across the screen, there is a blurring of the image?

Re: how come i now have bad ghosting- blu vs hd

i mean a burnt in image....static bright images being the culprit..otherwise the pic is awesome....just takes forever to go away, half way thru a movie in a dark scene...i still see the blu ray emblem on the screen, or the menu outline ??

Re: how come i now have bad ghosting- blu vs hd

Hmmm... Sounds like it might well be an issue w/ the plasma technology combined w/ the static image problem. I just saw a brief mention about that over the displays forum section over here:

Unfortunately, not sure what you can do about it other than get a better player.
