Crime Shows on DVD

Don't ask me why, but ever since I filled out my library of the gaping holes and got caught up on watching them I've been stuck on a certain bend. When I picked up the Bones season sets I really hadn't thought of it but I've recently become stuck on crime drama television shows and it kiind of started with Bones. Since the past month, I've become stuck in a rut; Jag, CSI, NCIS, NYPD Blue, Murder She Wrote, Columbo, McCloud, Rockford Files, Magnum P.I., and many others but I have to say this current slew had started with watching CSI. Purchased/ordered NCIS on a type of blind buy from which I'm currently stuck. NCIS has turned into a sort of unknown favourite of mine.

Just surprised that I never really watch the show before now ...

Re: Crime Shows on DVD

I have some of those. IMO my current Favorate is Walker, Texas Ranger because in the end Norris always ends up wiping the floor with the bad guys face!

Re: Crime Shows on DVD

"Peacemakers" is another great series, which aired on USA Network (though there isn't a DVD release yet from Universal). It starred Tom Berenger and was a western-take on "CSI". Unfortunately, it was short-lived. But not because of ratings, but because the demographics were lower than what the network wanted. I suggested this to Shout! Factory awhile back on their message boards, but there's nothing on that front.

Among the shows I own that are in this genre or partly in this genre are:

Monk (S1-5)
Psych (S1)
NCIS (S1-2)
JAG (S2)
Numb3rs (S1-3)
Sherlock Holmes (Granada television series) (I have The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes Box Set Collection, The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes DVD Collection, and last year I bought the complete series set.)

And since "Magnum" was brought up anyway, I'll list this one as well. I currently own the seventh season.

Disney/Buena Vista/Miramax: Please put Beautiful Girls on Blu-ray with bonus features and the original theatrical trailer in 1080p, and an anamorphic re-release with bonus features and the original theatrical trailer day-and-date on DVD. Thanks!

Re: Crime Shows on DVD

Chris, I remember that series but never saw enough interest to watch it ... it was the networks decision to create a modern western series that used forensics and it failed to win over audiences.

Re: Crime Shows on DVD

Crime dramas tend to be a stable of my collection along with scifi. I own and enjoy many shows from your list. I might recommend Homicide: Life on the Street, the recently released Third Watch, Shark, and through it's not quite a crime show exactly, the BBC series MI-5 (the US title for the UK show Spooks). It's a realistic domestic spy drama, but covers a lot of my love for crime shows.

Re: Crime Shows on DVD

One of the best crime dramas was Kojak with the late Telly Savalas. Too bad Universal only released one season of it on dvd.
