I have a new KDS46E3000 rear projection LCD. It has an iris setting of low, medium and high. I am assuming the lamp brightness level stays the same, and a mechanical iris opens and closes in front of the light source.

In other words, running the iris in high will not reduce the lamps life expectancy. is this correct?
