LIONS FOR LAMBS

Robert Redford, Meryl Streep and Tom Cruise Deliver A Powerful and Gripping Thriller That Digs Behind the News, the Politics and a Nation Divided By War

Available On DVD April 8 from MGM Home Entertainment

LOS ANGELES, CA – From Academy Awardâ winning director Robert Redford* and United Artists comes a “significant and entertaining, thought-provoking” (Janos Gereben, San Francisco Examiner) thriller that examines the news and politics of a nation divided to explore the human consequences of a violent war, LIONS FOR LAMBS arrives on DVD April 8 from MGM Home Entertainment. Featuring “on-the-mark performances” (Larry King) from Redford, Meryl Streep and Tom Cruise and an “insightful and provocative” (Carla Meyer, Sacramento Bee) script by newcomer Matthew Michael Carnahan (The Kingdom), LIONS FOR LAMBS is “a wake-up call” (Pete Hammond, Maxim) that illustrates the impact that Americans have on each other and the world.

With the “clear intent to (gasp!): Make. People. Think,” (Peter Travers, Rolling Stone), the story centers on recent graduates, Arian (Derek Luke, Glory Road, Friday Night Lights) and Ernest (Michael Pena, Babel, Crash), that make a bold decision to join the war in Afghanistan after being inspired by their idealistic professor, Dr. Malley (Redford), to do something important with their lives. These two men become the tie that binds two very different stories taking place on opposite sides of America.

In California, Dr. Malley attempts to reach a privileged but disaffected student, while in Washington, D.C., Presidential hopeful Senator Jasper Irving (Cruise) begins a dangerous “cat and mouse game” (Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle) with liberal television journalist Janine Roth (Streep), where the result could play a crucial role in the fate of Arian and Ernest and the rest of America.

Featuring commentary by director Robert Redford, “The Making Of Lions For Lambs,” “Script To Screen” and “United Artists Legacy” featurettes and the theatrical teaser and trailer, LIONS FOR LAMBS will be available on DVD in both widescreen and full screen formats for a suggested retail price of $29.98 U.S. Prebook is March 12, 2008.

LIONS FOR LAMBS Synopsis

Robert Redford, Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep deliver “three knockout performances” (Vue Weekly) in this powerful, provocative thriller that explores the consequences of taking a stand. An idealistic professor (Redford) in California attempts to inspire a student to do more with his life, while a charismatic Senator (Cruise) in Washington D.C. pitches a new Middle East war strategy to a probing TV journalist (Streep). And halfway across the world, two of the professor’s former students are trapped behind enemy lines in Afghanistan, fighting for freedom—and their very lives. As the tension mounts and the bullets fly, these Americans will change each other’s lives and the world in ways they never could have imagined.

Re: MGM Press Release: Lions For Lambs

Hi,

This has a good picture and sound.
The score is not bad.

Movie is a bit talky, but is designed to evoke such debate.

Extras are good especially the UA montage. Would it be true that MGM/UA had the most Best Picture winners in the 50s-70s?
