Be careful purchasing some of these titles because some of them are still not in their OAR such as "The Train".

If United Artists really cared about its films on the AFI list.....there would have been CARE in the rereleases of their classics on DVD. New Anamorphic transfers of the titles would have shown INTEGRITY and true pride in their so called celebration of 90 years. What a joke.

This has nothing to do with United Artists as MGM owns these titles now, but your points about AFI and 90 years of film legacy are well taken.

Re: MGM Press Release: United Artists Celebrating 90 Years Of Film

Sigh...what the hell is the point of this? Without new transfers, there's no point in repurchasing these, and how many people are there out there who want these films who don't already have them? If they would have spent just some of the money they wasted on coming up with the marketing crap for this, we might have some decent new product actually worth buying. What a shame.

Re: MGM Press Release: United Artists Celebrating 90 Years Of Film

In todays DVD world, MGM = Garbage. I would never buy any MGM DVD without first reading a review confirming that the transfer is current, done with reasonable care, anamorphic, and of excellent quality.

In my eyes Fox is just as guilty for rolling over and allowing junk like this to be released with a Fox logo on the box.

Two examples of the current MGM / Fox disasters:

The Elvis Presley MGM Movie Legends Collection box set and the Frankie and Annette box set.

These two sets are a mix of old transfers, many of them non-anamorphic, some interlaced, with none of them having an image looking anything like a quality DVD.

I thought Fox just got paid for distributing the DVDs? I didn't think they had anything to do with deciding what was released (or rather, re-re-re-released)?

Of course these titles are being reissued because they are (generally) films that sell well. But I think that at this stage they should've already made definitive DVD releases of this films, and now should be concentrating on releasing the films in HD.

A few million dollars invested over the last five years could really start paying off now.

Re: MGM Press Release: United Artists Celebrating 90 Years Of Film

It's true they are the distributor, and not the originator of these discs.

However, Fox certainly doesn't have to put their logo on the box. By doing so, they are in effect endorsing the shoddy quality of the product.
