Re: 2 More Mill Creek DVD sets coming in March

Looking at the 300 Westerns dvd, I'm thinking it's probably just a combining of the two Mill Creek 150 episode Westerns they have already released. So there's really nothing new in that one.

This is the first I've heard of Robin Hood Season one, I only have a DVD of a few episodes. Thanks Gary. I'm adding that near the top of my want list. Awesome! I'll have to pick up the Flynn film at the same time. What a plan!!

Mill Creek's description confirms your thinking, Gary . . .

"Combining its popular Ultimate TV Westerns and Western TV Classics 150 Episode Packs, Mill Creek Entertainment is able to present hours of western entertainment."

I don't think all of the season 1 Robin Hood episodes have made it to DVD here in the U.S., though most have. The closest U.S. set that I could find was Timeless Media's release of the first 30 episodes of season 1:

The Adventures of Robin Hood

But, if Mill Creek's set looks anywhere near like its release of "The Buccaneers" of 2006, then this will be one of the better bargain releases this year. Of course, the entire series has already been released in the U.K. by Network.

The 300 Westerns DVD Collection is just their two 150 Episodes Collections put together, no new material there.

Re: 2 More Mill Creek DVD sets coming in March

And yet another TV Westerns box set from Mill Creek . . . .

Mill Creek Details Page

This looks like Mill Creek's previously released "Bonanza" box set is simply combined with various and sundry PD Western TV episodes that have also been previously released by them. No episode listings, but here are the shows included . . . . .

1. Adventures of Champion, The
2. Bat Masterson
3. Bonanza
4. Cisco Kid, The
5. Death Valley Days
6. Lone Ranger, The (TV)
7. Range Rider, The
8. Rifleman, The
9. Roy Rogers Show, The

It does appear that this set is simply a repackaging of

and

They also have an "Ultimate Pirates" box set coming which, in addition to a dozen pirate themed movies, also includes the full run of "The Buccaneers" (39 episodes) and 14 (of 26) episodes of "The Adventures of Long John Silver."

Re: 2 More Mill Creek DVD sets coming in March

I just bought both those western sets last week. $5 each. That seems to be an outstanding value. Now, the Pirates set, I don't know. I bought a dollar DVD of that Long John Silver show (well, it was Return to Treasure Island) and it was beyond awful. Treasure Island is my favorite live-action Disney movie, but that TV show just didn't work for me. Hopefully someone will do a review of that Pirate set because I love pirate stuff when it's done right. Well, often even when it isn't (hello Yellowbeard, which is one of my most watched films).

Slightly off topic, I've been watching their Beverly Hillbillies set lately and it is an absolute joy to see that old show again. It needs season sets badly though. I'd rank the show neverly up there with Gilligan and The Brady Bunch without hesitation. And...Ellie Mae was incredible. Whoo hoo!

Re: 2 More Mill Creek DVD sets coming in March

Having just (regretably) picked up Mill Creek's "Best of Jack Benny" release, I can say that I won't be buying ANY more issues from this "studio". I have never seen such awful transfers. The source material on some of these episodes must have been fifth generation VHS....well worn VHS at that. Absolutely awful!!!!!!

Re: 2 More Mill Creek DVD sets coming in March

Still, they are cheap. And a lot of this stuff is very old. Sure, most is worthy of extensive clean up, but who is going to do that?

I plan to pickup that Jack Benny this week. Might get Cisco Kid as well (or wait a few weeks).

I've been loving the Mill Creek stuff, bad transfers and all. Just being able to see this stuff again.

I think you'll be appalled at the transfers on Jack Benny....ESPECIALLY the "Honeymooners Show"....it's unwatchable.

Re: 2 More Mill Creek DVD sets coming in March

While I haven't gone through the Jack Benny set all that much, the transfers weren't that bad. They were certainly watchable.

As for Mill Creek, one thing that I don't like that they are doing is, for some of the movie sets, they are instead of doing double sided DVDs with 2 on each side, they are now fitting 4 movies on one side. I've had to return several of them since they wouldn't even play, they were so faulty. One of the Western Movies set (Mean Guns I think it was called) sold for $5 at Wal mart was unplayable twice. I just gave up on it.

Oh my! I know what you mean about Honeymooners. I remember the last time I caught one on TV (can't remember when , but a looong time ago) the visual quality was terrible. I see why you'd complain about it. There is so much to complain about when looking at how badly treated this classic stuff is. DVD arrived just a bit late to save so much.
