There's a lot to keep up with here, you know.
Thanks for the answer though.

If the bitrate is the same, it doesn´t matter whether it´s DD or DD+. But of course, if you´re a HD DVD fan.. ![]() ![]() Edit: Older thread here: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/...-dd-vs-dd.html Edit2: And one old thread from AVSforum: 640Kbps DD vs DD+ - AVS Forum Archive 2 Quote (from Roger Dressler/Dolby Laboratories Insider): "The various new tools in DD+ are indeed powerful. But they don't come into play at 448 kbps or higher. They are there to help DD+ maintain good quality at bitrates well below the point where DD would not normally be used, say, 200-256 kbps for 5.1, or 48 kbps for mono. These bitrates are needed for secondary audio, commentary, and broadcast applications. There is indeed a clearly discernable difference in openness and transparency between DD+ 768 vs DD at 448. DD at 640 is not identical to DD+ 768, but it is extremely close." And.. "The new encoder tools in DD+, that materially improve coding efficiency at low bitrates, do not operate at high bitrates like 640 kbps." edit3: But none never did go that high with DD+. Granted, some DD+-tracks were 1.5Mbps, when DD (at Blu-ray) of the same release was "only" 640Kbps. |
| The codec used by Dolby digital plus is based on the original Dolby Digital codec, but with several enhancements to improve coding efficiency: * Transient pre-noise processing – to reduce "pre-noise" artifacts before sharp transients. * Enhanced channel coupling – which maintains phase relationships between channels, and improves performance of matrix decoders. * Adaptive hybrid transform processing – an improved bit allocation and quantization algorithm. |
