Cables please. i am still new to the audiophile thing and am lost when it comes to this subject. I am currently running a yamaha DSP-Z9 reciever with a toshiba A2 HD-DVD player. My speakers are B&W 603s in the front 601s in the back and a 630 center. the sub is a vylodine 10 sub. does it matter the size of the speaker cable ie 8 guage or 12 guage. do i want to run Coaxial or fiber optic digital?.
i hope im placing this post in the right spot.

Re: Lets talk about?????

Speaker wire should be 16ga or larger unless you are running an extremely long distance (100ft or more).

Don't open the opical vs. coax digital war again. Optical cables are more easily damaged. Coax can sometimes cause a ground loop. Otherwise, they sound identical.

Re: Lets talk about?????

8AWG would be major overkill for those speakers, and practically any speaker period in the typical HT. 14AWG-12AWG will handle just about everything one could ever want.

If given the choice, I use coaxial digital cables - just a personal preference. The A2 only has optical IIRC, so that one is already decided for you. I'd also recommend doing the latest firmware update for the A2.

HT: Marantz SR-8300, MA500 mono, Audiosource Amp300, 5X GR Research A/V-2s, Adire Audio Tempest sub, Oppo BDP-83, RC2000MkII, Panamax 5100, Panamax Max2 sub, PS3 60G (250G)...

Using Kimber cables, you are paying for a name. I either make my own or use Monoprice.

With cables, especially digital cables (HDMI, optical, "digital" coax), you are mostly paying for a name. Did you know your super duper Kimber "digital" coaxial cable only has to perform to the specs of the cheap yellow ended video cable that comes free with every video component ever sold? That's right, the SPDIF coax specifications were engineered to require a simple 75 Ohm video cable, nothing more. But then the marketing gurus slapped the word "Digital" on it and all of a sudden a $1.99 cable has to cost you $100. IMHO, that's not "marketing", it's "robbery"!
