Energy RC10 vs Monitor Audio BR2 vs B&W 685, which one is better?

Hi, I am looking for a pair of book shelf speakers for my dad driving by Onkyo TX-SR504. The space is small, probably 400 sq.ft. He mainly use it to listen to classical music. After reading reviews and auditions, I come down to these 3: Energy RC10, B&W 685 and MA BR2. My budget is $500-600 CAD.

I tested the Energy RC10 at Future shop and B&W 685 at Hi-Fi center in Vancouver. But one is a chain store and one is a pro hi-fi store with Rotel amplifiers in a sound proof room. And I am listening to different CD also, so, I cannot really compared, and therefore, I am looking for advise from you pros.

From my hearing, I think the B&W sounds ALOT better, with excellent bass and detail. And when playing drums, the cone moves like crazy. But for the Energy, the bass is not as heavy when I listen, although I didn't take off the cover and see if they are move like the B&W. Is it because of different design? Is it because of the set up in the pro center that makes B&W sound so much better?

And unfortunately, I don't have a chance to audition Monitor Audio BR2. The ultimate question, which one would you recommend?

And I have a different question on my living room set up, I will probably post another thread.

Thank you very much for your feedbacks.

Re: Energy RC10 vs Monitor Audio BR2 vs B&W 685, which one is better?

I did some more research, and found out the Energy RC10 and B&W 685 are very similar. Both of them has 1" aluminium dome tweeter, and both of them has Kevlar cone for bass, 5.5" and 6.5" respectively. The frequence range are 50Hz-23 kHz (RC10), and 49Hz-22kHz (685). But RC10 win on the cabinet. It use real wood while 685 use vinyl. But I can't find their corresponding thickness though. Would appreciate if anyone of you know.

And both of them win an award. The RC10 wins the Soundstage award in 2006, and the 685 wins the EISA award. It seems the EISA is more reputable than sound stage ... Both of them has very very good reviews ... I think both of them are very good speakers. I also read people said 685 has stronger bass. The price are similar too. I got the RC10 at FS at 599, while the 685 at 550.

That's all I can found on the internet. Would like to hear your comments.
