Re: Weekly RoundUp 1-15-2008
Well, I know they remastered Citizen Kane, The Jazz Singer and Blade Runner...so, I guess it's only right that they finally get around to Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown!

Thanks, Jason!
There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

Can't disagree with that logic, Ron...except that sometimes Disney will put that tier of titles up for a 5/$30 pricepoint. But that's usually around a Black Friday sort of event...so I'd grab 'em while you can.

I reviewed the Paramount releases of
A Boy Named Charlie Brown and
Snoopy Come Home when they were released almost two years ago. My comments on the video were as follows:
"Both DVD’s provide us with an anamorphic image. However, I have to question the aspect ratio. The baseball scene at the beginning of “A Boy Named Charlie Brown” and Snoopy’s letter to the editor in “Snoopy Come Home” seems to be cut off, and there are several other scenes that look like they have been squeezed in. The bright, animated color detail is good but it tends to stray towards red in many scenes. There is also minor color bleeding in some scenes. Characters skin tones go from pink to almost brown depending on the scene. There is noticeable film dirt throughout the pictures and I saw some darkening of a couple scenes at the beginning of “A Boy Named Charlie Brown” when Charlie Brown is trying to fly his kite. “Snoopy Come Home” suffers from very noticeable video noise and compression artifacts. Even sitting back thirteen feet from the screen it was still noticeable. Blacks are suitably deep and there is some edge enhancement."
There were no extras on this release. I can't imagine the new Warner editions are going to be much better.

But, Pat...they are
re-mastered!

I remembered your remarks about the transfers pushing the reds...but had forgotten about the aspect ratio concern.
Thanks for reminding me. I guess it will be interesting to see what's been done.

Target has all three seasons of Veronica Mars for $29.99 each. Season 1 and 2 are often on sale for less, but that's a good price for season 3 unless you're willing to wait longer.
