Default Using four bookshelf speakers and one floor speaker?

(The word "default" should not be in the thread title)

My living room only has three walls. From the position of sitting on the couch, there is no right wall, and instead there is an open space that leads to the kitchen. I want to set up a 6.1 system, but obviously I would have no place to put the speaker that should go on or near the right wall. Would I be completely messing up my sound system to put a large floor speaker there, but use bookshelf speakers for the rest of the set-up? Thanks for any help you can provide!

My first option would be to find a way to attach a bookshelf speaker to the ceiling. Many have threaded mounts for this exact reason. Surrounds need to be above ear level.

They flutter behind you, your possible pasts.
Some bright-eyed and crazy, some frightened and lost.

Plant hangers work real good in these situations!
