hey, theater guys, i'm not new to the theater world but i love having systems in my house. i first started off with LASER DISC back in the 90's. my friends were blown away and i loved it. i was the only one with such a system. but had one problem, all this sound but a small screen. now in 2006 here comes he big screens, YES...

i still have my lasers are they still play great no problems. but playing dvd's after playing a laser the sound is slightly lower. even with dvd's in THX & DTS. most of my lasers r in THX so the sound is very loud the way i like it. now since BD have uncompressed sound it should match the level of my lasers i hope. otherwise i'm glad 2 b here.....

Re: newbie here

Laserdisc had lossless audio, which DVD can not do (DTS 96/24 maybe, but very few of those were made) which may explain your audio situation.

But if its just a matter of 'overall volume', turn the big knob clockwise and enjoy the show.

"Did you know that more people are murdered at 92 degrees Fahrenheit than any other temperature? I read an article once. Lower temperatures, people are easy-going, over 92 and it's too hot to move, but just 92, people get irritable."

LD had PCM which is uncompressed. Splitting hairs yes but it's not technically lossless. DVD can do PCM as well. One of the Spike Lee films had it. It's pretty rare though.
