Star Trek TOS Season 2 HD-DVD- March 25th tentative release
Re: Star Trek TOS Season 2 HD-DVD- March 25th tentative release
Rick-In actuality, the menus don't take that long. It starts with a shot of the turbo lift and Shatner's voice as Kirk saying "Bridge". I can bypass this by hitting the skip forward button. Then the main menu loads and it's really fast to scroll through the episodes once you know the routine. It's faster then the last SD box set as you don't have to sit and wait for all the menu stuff to load.
The only confusing part of the menu was where to find the Fly-by the Enterprise feature on the 10th disc.

Seems Season 2 is being delayed, pushed back or cancelled altogether.Star Trek DVD news: Delay for Star Trek - Season 2 on HD DVD | TVShowsOnDVD.com
Looks like Paramount/CBS made my decision for me (that is to hold off for now) .
Re: Star Trek TOS Season 2 HD-DVD- March 25th tentative release
I'm not surprised at the delay, postponement, cancelation, whatever.
Yesterday's Paramount press release touting their Q1 HD DVD plans didn't do much to "wow" me, and I said to myself if ST: TOS S2 holds to its 3/25 release date that will show me how committed to HD DVD Paramount is at them moment. Now it's possible that this news isn't directly related to recent format war developments in Blu-ray Discs favor, but I think one would unwise to dismiss that possibility all the same.
Re: Star Trek TOS Season 2 HD-DVD- March 25th tentative release
I'll be holding off as well, at least until all three seasons are out! looks like I won't be getting that free phaser remote! Things are just too iffy right now.Re: Star Trek TOS Season 2 HD-DVD- March 25th tentative release

You would shoot yourself in the eye anyway Ric. Thanks Nelson for the information above. I have to say being able to "look" at the Enterprise on that 10th disc would be my favorite part for sure from the screen grabs of it i saw!
Re: Star Trek TOS Season 2 HD-DVD- March 25th tentative release
Hmmm... The article said that it was pushed back due to more time needed to produce these. There was nothing in the article that even hinted a possibilty of cancellation.Re: Star Trek TOS Season 2 HD-DVD- March 25th tentative release

I can personally confirm this.
When I attended the screening of The Menagerie last November in Burbank, I mentioned to the project manager at the production house (which'll remain unnamed) that I heard that CBS would be releasing S2 in Mar/Apr. He responded (paraphrase here) that "It wasn't likely since they've barely begun creating the supplements for the set."
There you have it.
We should also keep in mind that even IF Paramount switches to BD, CBS probably will still have the option of completing and releasing all 3 seasons on HD-DVD regardless. CBS is said to be quite happy with the sales and progress of the project thus far on HD-DVD
I do believe we'll eventually see all three seasons on HD-DVD and look forward to picking them up.

Paramount and CBS are technically separate companies. Even if Paramount went BD exclusive doesn't mean that CBS would. In fact even when Paramount was neutral CBS was not. All of their announced titles were for HD DVD only saying that the blu-ray version MIGHT be coming at some point. When Paramount went HD DVD exclusive CBS said nothing about it one way or the other, they just proceeded with their plans.

Gotcha! Thought that came outta nowhere!Re: Star Trek TOS Season 2 HD-DVD- March 25th tentative release
DAMN! It is true that the March 2008 release date was never official. I guess I wanted to believe it was true!
Thanks for that news Reggie. Makes sense that the efforts to prepare the suppliments is still in the works.
Re: Star Trek TOS Season 2 HD-DVD- March 25th tentative release
I would point out that the item about the delay was dated Dec 3. This is old news and has nothing to do with the Warner situation. I fully expect S2 to be released unless Toshiba folds it's tent. I will likely buy it since I have no plans to switch to bluray.Re: Star Trek TOS Season 2 HD-DVD- March 25th tentative release
I wonder how close we are to getting Enterprise in HD, now that Paramount has dropped the price of Enterprise in regular DVD to $50 (down from $100)."Scientists are saying the future is going to be far more futuristic than they originally predicted." -Krysta Now
Re: Star Trek TOS Season 2 HD-DVD- March 25th tentative release
While it appears that Toshiba is dropping the HD-DVD format and appears it will announce it this evening, I wonder what will happen to Star Trek.I would imagine that if the material is already to go, they can format it to encode for BD as well. So now when will the second season be available and will they re-issue S1!

Digital Bits report:Also, we haven't confirmed this with the studio yet, but it seems likely: Format War Central is reporting that a Technicolor insider has informed them that work has stopped on CBS and Paramount's Star Trek: The Original Series Remastered - Season Two HD-DVD release. They're saying that Toshiba was financing the production as part of an exclusive arrangement to have the title on HD-DVD only, and they've now pulled the plug.

Star Trek Season 2 Cancelled Not Delayed : Format War Central
| We are going to give the real information on Star Trek Season 2’s delay cancellation. An inside source at Technicolor has informed us that a few weeks ago Toshiba cancelled the work they were doing on Star Trek Season 2. Toshiba had been the one paying for the re-mastering/encoding of Star Trek: TOS, which was part of their exclusive deal with Paramount. Also part of the exclusive deal is that Paramount must use AVC in the encoding of the Star Trek Series, more specifically they must use Toshiba’s AVC encoder. We think this was a way Toshiba could try to push their AVC encoder, which they had invested lots of money in.Toshiba has had a hard time getting studios to purchase their AVC encoder, since VC-1 is so popular with studios on both sides of the format war. A good example of this is Warner, who mandates VC-1 on all it’s discs. |

Bummer. Paramount's Trek franchise was one of my deciding factors for getting into HD-DVD. Looks like they managed to get out exactly one release.Re: Star Trek TOS Season 2 HD-DVD- March 25th tentative release
Woah. I came THIS close last week to finally picking S1 up with the new lower price. Glad I waited as I don't want to have this on 2 diff. formats.Question is, how long until a BD release?

Ditto for me, Dave. Did I hear that the tour around the Enterprise spacial feature could only be done with HD-DVD technology? I sure hope this gets out on Blu.

Thing is, they are still making them for broadcast. You would think CBS/Paramount would want to get a return on their investment.Re: Star Trek TOS Season 2 HD-DVD- March 25th tentative release

Given that the encodes for Season 1 are already done, I would think the opposite.
"Because he's the hero that Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now... and so we'll hunt him... because he can take it... because he's not a hero... he's a silent guardian, a watchful protector... a DARK KNIGHT."

Maybe it's not so much as Paramount was unwilling to pay for the encodes as it was Toshiba offered to do it to get the studio on board with HD DVD?
With that being said, I'll be in line now to get each of the remastered seasons.

I have my doubts about this. I mean at least the review copies were ready to go and all that. But I don´t have any official info about this.
Damn, if there´s one thing I regret now, it must the fact that "ST:TOS s2" is not coming. Or at least it´s seriously delayed. Or something.
