I´ll personally wait, until there´s 100% 1.1/2.0/etc player in the markets. Since I have PS3, I have time to wait. But I´ll get stand-alone player in the (near?) future..

"Well... we've had SOME confirmation this morning of the details of the Financial Times story from last night. While the studio isn't yet commenting, reliable industry sources are telling us that Paramount is indeed preparing to end their HD-DVD support and announce a return to the Blu-ray fold. Details are currently being finalized, and an announcement is expected as soon as they're complete.
Meanwhile, sources are telling us that Universal has also been talking with the BDA, and is looking to follow Paramount and Warner's lead as soon as possible."

I think many of you are going to be surprised how this really pans out!

Also, David, could you kindly stop rubbing the situation into everyone's faces.

I'm hearing $599.99 MSRP.

Re: Breaking News!! Warner is soon to be Blu-Ray Exclusive!
LOL at all those who think Comcast will ever be able to give you enough BW to download a movie.
I have Comcast. I am supposed to have 6 Mbit. Well, that might be true that it is capable of that, but only at 4 am. Normally I get a usable speed of at most 1 Mbit. And only in spurts. Primetime, I bet I am not even half of that.
I can"t even watch an On Demand show during prime time. I get an error saying that there is not enough BW. And this is to the cable box. Not internet.
Given this track record, I won't believe the 160 MBit speeds they are talking about until they can prove it to me. And even if they could get that speed. I would not want to watch a movie that is that compressed. If they end up looking as bad as the HD feeds they give me (compression artifacts etc.), then there is no way I would suport it.

It seems the Paramount situation is far from being packed in concrete:

BTW, while everyone is concentrating on Paramount's plans, I think it is going to be UNIVERSAL that surprises everyone!

With the way things have gone so far, I'm not sure anything can surprise me anymore.

I still think that is about the weakest statement ever. If Paramount really means it, they should be making statements a lot more bold than that.

As I stated, in regards to Universal, Paramount and Dreamworks --
you may be surprised!

I think too many people are jumping to conclusions that while
obvious, may not necessarily be correct.
As far as we are concerned, there is still a format war here despite
the fact some people think they hear the fat lady singing.

Re: Breaking News!! Warner is soon to be Blu-Ray Exclusive!
Oh, I believe downloading movies will be a major player. Heck, look at how many people seem to like MP3 files instead of CD quality audio.
Downloading movies will become popular for small handheld devices where the file can be compressed and you wont see the difference because of the small screens. Those who have Home theaters will never be able to just download a movie. There is a huge difference.
I can't stand the amount of compression I am seeing right now on the HD feeds through my cable box. I can see banding, pixelations etc. Any movie I would download would be as bad, or worse.

Come on, Nick, when has this entire formast "war" been fair for anyone? It's not fair to the standard DVD folks that there are features on the high def discs and not on the regular. It wasn't fair to the Blu Ray owners when Paramount cancelled Blades of Glory, Face/Off and Transformers (among others). It's not fair to the HD owners when New Line cancelled Hairspray and Rush Hour 3. There is no "fair" in this.

Re: Breaking News!! Warner is soon to be Blu-Ray Exclusive!
Here's a scenario of mine that may not be as far-fetched as you think.
It is of my belief that both NBC Universal and Paramount are quietly pressuring Toshiba to begin a phase-out of the HD-DVD format. Expect an announcement by Toshiba by circa April 2008 that they will begin a phaseout of the HD-DVD format, and Toshiba will (using recently developed chipsets) sell a lower-cost combo player that is HD-DVD and Blu-Ray Profile 1.1 compliant as a transitional product until Toshiba starts manufacturing their own Blu-ray Profile 1.1 and 2.0 players starting late this year or early 2009.
With the format wars over, expect the price of players to drop steeply, and we could see stand-alone players drop under US$200 (Profile 1.1) and US$250 (Profile 2.0) by this time next year.

I don't think so; a combo player with full Profile 2.0 compliance will cost too much on the retail level--and only a small number of users demand the Internet connectivity of Profile 2.0 compliance.

Since you seem to be in on what's going on back stage, I am sure all of us would appreciate it if you could share atleast a bit more than these one line teasers.

Hey even if it all does not turn out as reported, I am sure it would be more fun to read than all the wild suggestions floating around in the forums.

Maybe Toshiba will start giving away FREE HD-DVD players?

That would quickly grow the potential market for discs and likely wouldn't be a bigger financial drain than all the cash they're throwing around to their "exclusive" studios.

Re: Breaking News!! Warner is soon to be Blu-Ray Exclusive!
I saw this article today;
Gamernode: News - Microsoft says Blu-ray for 360 is possible
I don't think it's anything worth discussing but I found the last quote hilarious, mind you this was spoken by a Microsoft representative;
"Until Toshiba goes out of business, this war is not over."
Lol, if I were Toshiba I'd be like "WHAT!, wtf Microsoft, shut up dude!"
"Because he's the hero that Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now... and so we'll hunt him... because he can take it... because he's not a hero... he's a silent guardian, a watchful protector... a DARK KNIGHT."
