Battlestar Galactica Season 3 DVD Art & More

It's finally been announced:

Battlestar Galactica DVD news: Announcement for Battlestar Galactica - Season 3 | TVShowsOnDVD.com

Now, if Universal had only released the second season as one single boxed set. At least we're getting Season 3 in its own single boxed set and not separated.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Season 3 DVD Art & More

Since we know this upcoming fourth season of Battlestar Galactica is the last, I think I'll exercise some prudent restraint and wait for the complete series box set (in Blu-Ray), which will no doubt be out before next Christmas.

I'm assuming they (Universal) will see the error of their ways by then; or at least Microsoft will stop bribing them and Paramount to release HD-DVD only.

What took so long?!?!?! I have been catching this series on DVD because I can't get the time to watch it when it is originally broadcast. I have too much respect for this series to bit-torrent it. It is just too high quality and too well written.

Yeah, but the release date might even be pushed back further since the Writer's Strike is still ongoing.

The podcasts are included after all! I thought with the strike and all we'd never see these.

"Unfinished Business" is 25 minutes longer? Whoa.

I wouldn't get too excited. It doesn't say for certain if the 25 minutes is the Unfinished Business. It just says that there are 25 minutes of deleted scenes.

HD, Universal? Please? Do it for me; I even like the packaging on HD season one.

Nothing more than a guess but if they haven't changed the S4 premiere date yet and they've announced the S3 DVD to coincide with that premiere, it's extremely unlikely that they're going to change it. They'll just play whatever episodes they have finished and then when the strike ends, they'll make and air the rest.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Season 3 DVD Art & More

It's a longer cut, alright. This is from an interview with Ron Moore:

Quote:
11) Do you have anything special planned for the upcoming DVD and high-def releases of BSG?
They have been putting together the box set for season three. There is a very long extended episode of “Unfinished Business” – 70 minutes long. The editor and I did a commentary track for it. That was the biggest editing challenge of the third season

Re: Battlestar Galactica Season 3 DVD Art & More

The press release says that particular episode includes 25 minutes of extra footage, unless it's extremely poorly written. Don't forget season 2.5's version of Pegasus was 15 minutes longer than broadcast. From what the producers were saying on the podcast, they had to cut out a lot of stuff from the episode, such as the reason Starbuck and Tigh were getting along after the "bold leap forward."
I'm not really a huge fan of the episode, but maybe the added scenes will improve it, and I'm definitely interested to see the other flashbacks to the lost year.

Oh how I wish for such a thing to happen.....there's so much in each of their catalogues that I'd love to have on BD.

As for Battlestar Galactica: Season 3, it's about damn time that they are releasing this. I've been waiting a long time to pick this up. Now I just have to wait about 3 long, cold winter months before I get my hands on it.
Recently watched- BSG: Season 4.0[BD], Starship Troopers 3: Marauder[BD], The Happening[BD], Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen (IMAX)[BD], An American Werewolf In London[BD]

I don't think season 4 will even be over by next Christmas.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Season 3 DVD Art & More

Remember, the last half of Season 4 might not air until mid 2009.

In my opinion, Universal is always disrespecting fans by prolonging the DVD set releases as well as prolonging the Battlestar Galactica series. This is why I've given up on watching television.

If I want to watch a television series, I just buy the DVD sets.

The problem is that by the time the fourth starts to air, Universal and Sci Fi are taking a huge risk that they've lost fans who have been waiting for the last season that there's going to be a drop in their ratings. Waiting an entire year and a half to broadcast the final season? Universal definately has the wrong people advising them as to their broadcast schedule for the series.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Season 3 DVD Art & More

No word on the "Resistance" webisodes in this release?

Those are as every bit as essential as the regular episodes themselves, and there was that article from earlier this spring which indicated that they'd be included, edited together with extended content to form "Episode Zero" on the DVD playlist.

Though, the WGA strike might've fucked this up.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Season 3 DVD Art & More

Though apparently Ron Moore was reluctant to even turn the "Resistance" video masters over to Universal, awaiting word from the WGA on a couple of key points -- there was still some friction over these earlier this year. It might've gotten smoothed over before the strike began, but the DVD press release doesn't really give any hints on their inclusion one way or the other.

I was looking for that too, and was saddened it may not be included.

I agree that the webisodes are essential viewing for BSG.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Season 3 DVD Art & More

Absolutely -- the first scenes in Episode 3.01 ("Occupation") jump ahead something like four months, IIRC, from the ending of 2.20 ("Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II"), and the webisodes fill in those missing months.

Everything from Colonel Tigh's organization of the New Caprica resistance movement, down to a much stronger understanding of precisely why Jammer decided to become a Cylon collaborator, as well as Duck's desire to end it all as a suicide-bomber. Folks who just watch the season premiere alone are going to be lost on several of these plot-points, though they should still be able to mentally "bridge" it enough to go on from there.

I dunno. Some sites are still of the opinion that the webisodes will make the cut on the DVD set, but until we get that first official spec-listing from Universal, it's all up in the air.

But still. Can't believe they'd let these fall by the wayside.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Season 3 DVD Art & More

I hope the "Resistance" webisodes are included as well... I never actually saw them.

The web-based "Flashback" episodes were included on the Razor DVD, and they weren't mentioned at all on the packaging (not sure about the press release). Granted, some of them were in the movie itself, but not all of them.

The original note on Battlestar Galactica DVD news: Announcement for Battlestar Galactica - Season 3 | TVShowsOnDVD.com said this

One of the episodes, "Unfinished Business", will have an exclusive version on this DVD release, including 25 minutes of never-before-seen footage!

====

And fantastic news on the webisodes being included! I can't wait to see those on a real sized screen Surprised to see them on disc 2 and not on disc 1 but as long as they are some where I am happy!

I didn't know this. Are there 3 versions of Pegasus?

a) The "shortened" syndicated length version on 2.0 for a 1 hour time block
b) The original extended episode that was broadcast over 90 minutes
c) And an extended extended episode on 2.5?

"Blu-ray now has 70% exclusive access to Hollywood studio content. Didn't we say this format war would finally end in 2008? Not a moment too soon as far as we're concerned. Our bet is that Universal and Paramount announce Blu-ray support by mid 2008, if not sooner. No studio is going to want to be the last one holding the bag now."

So the hope for a Box Set BSG on Blu-Ray suddenly appears more realistic, if not until after the run of the fourth and last season in 2009.

I'll give you that it's a possibility by 2009. It's nearly impossible that Universal will switch to Blu Ray AND release three seasons of BSG in the next 12 months.
