The 2008 Film List thread is mainly for discussing, reviewing and tracking 2008 films. The "Track the films you watch" thread is a great place to keep track of all films watched in a year, though any are welcome to track all their film watching here if they so desire.

This is also a great place to discuss smaller release, independent and foreign films that probably won't get a dedicated review and discussion thread.

And this thread is useful for keeping track of what 2008 films you watched when you're compiling an end of year list or a top ten next December.

I've always found this thread far more useful, especially if I want to get a good idea of what movies have come out recently that I should add to my list of films to see. The other thread is far too large and unwieldy to get any pertinent information out of and frankly I've always thought it was a bit boastful - the 'Look how many movies I can watch in 1 year' thread.

Just saw Be Kind Rewind. Other than two or three great movie spoofs and a few more mediocre ones, this movie was a mess. It was good to see Danny Glover again, though and Mos Def continues to proof that he can act. But when you're handed a script this convoluted even solid actors have a hard time making it into a good movie. (The Bucket List would be another recent example of this.)

it's a great era for comedy, and this is one of the very best of the recent ones. Brilliant, especially the script and performances, the direction is excellent, the cinematography average and the editing is brilliant. Wonderful and a must see. I had a much more adulatory and detailed post written and bumped some link and lost ten minutes of writing in the quick reply box.

this film is more than worth your time and money, it should be a smashing success. It's better than superbad and knocked up and in the league of Juno. It's also Pg13 (its rated R, but since it has Charlie being a middle man delivering perscriptions to fellow highschoolers, ie dealing drugs, it had to be rated R)

The Bank Job - 9 out of 10

The Bank Job is the best heist film in some time. Based on a real bank robbery in London in the early 70s, the film has the gritty look & feel of the period. Director Roger Donaldson has filmed it in a straight-ahead, no-nonsense style, and gives us just the right mix of action, intrigue, and character development to make a completely satisfying entertainment. Star Jason Statham shows some real chops here, and I hope he starts gravitating to more material like this with some meat on it as opposed to the dumb actioners he's been making. He's ably abetted by a superb group of British character actors, most of whom will be new faces to American audiences (which only adds to the film's feel of authenticity). Highly recommended!

Added Forgetting Sarah Marshall; it's a very strong three stars, might even be a weak three and a half. Still deciding.
