Hi Im a newbie just joined but have searched on for answers to reconnect my HTH. A friend wired my home while under construction and suggested a Yamaha receiver and Bose Accoustimass module & cubes as he had just installed several months earlier. My system was up & running ok from 11/04
to 3/06. About 7 months earlier I noticed when I went to turn on receiver went to standby mode. Sometimes worked sometimes defaulted. Finally I called a tech in to exam for cure. He couldn't spot treat only disconnected everything and told me of better speakers & subwoofer on mkt. I agree but, I had receiver sent out for checkout & returned Bose center speaker for checkout still under warranty. Tech here said ohms were measuring in milli-amps???. Bose returned center speaker with comment nothing found???
I am now attempting to proceed to reconnect everything however, I am still
shy of the impedance issue. I wll list my components best I can.
Running 6:1 Using all analog cables.
Yamaha RX-V150 AV Receiver (can run 4,6,or 8 ohms ?)
Bose Accoustimas15 Module w/ (5) cubes for front L & R, Surround Rear L & R,
& (1) for surround back. Center front speaker is Bose VCS-10. All are connected to receiver "A" terminal.
Outside speakers are (2) Bose 251 Environs connected to "B" terminal.
TV RCA 52" rear projection model P52939 S-Video cable to receiver I believe. I have Verizon FIOS w/ HD/DVR Motorola Q1P6416-2 furnished by
Verizon. I am not running HD tv .
Sony VCR model SLV-775HF (circa early 1990's)not run to receiver I use channel 3 to view.
Sony Dual cassette deck model TC-WE435 wired to (play only channels)
Sony Turntable PS-LX35011 to receiver.
Toshiba DVD player model SD-4990SU player only (purch Aug 06)
To this point I have reconnected the cabling & have made notes.
I read in the Yamaha manual section about setting impedance on receiver
if Im going to 6 ohms. Why would I do this?? If so for both terminals A & B.
\Says to hold in terminal button & turn on receiverbut, in another breath
says don't turn on power till al spkrs & compaonents wired & correct.
Bose says their speakers are compatible 4-8 ohms????
HELP! I fear blowing the system and getting whacked for repair again.
As you can tell I'm pretty much a neophite at this.
I know you can help me back enjoying my HTH again.
