Weird Sound Problem.

Hey all Im quite new to home theaters and am having a weird audio problem.

I have a digital cable box (HD / PVR) hooked up with optical Fiber to my Sony Receiver. And a DVD player hooked up with digital co-axial.
I have a Sony 5.1-Channel HDMI Receiver and a Bose Acoustimass 5.1 Speaker setup.

The DVD player and all works fine. The problem is with the Digital Cable box. Now if I watch a normal channel the audio comes in fine. However if I switch to a high definition channel I can hear all the audio, except not people talking. Its really weird. On the HD channel though, if I change the setting from surround sound, to just 2 channels I can hear the audio fine. So Im guessing this has something to do with my settings since audio signal coming in on the HD channel must be different then the regular.

Does anyone have any ideas:

Re: Weird Sound Problem.

The first thing I'd do is check to make sure the center channel speaker is connected properly. (The Bose accoustimass module should be getting the output from the Sony, and all of the speakers should be connected to it.) The Bose satellites aren't designed to be connected directly to a receiver - they can't handle the power. Digital 5.1 surround sound is called discrete because it completely separates the signals that go to each speaker. So the dialogue basically only goes to the center channel speaker (unless a character wanders off screen or to the extreme edge of the frame or there is supposed to be an echo.)

Re: Weird Sound Problem.

Speakers are most definitely hooked up correctly. All the satellites are going to the Subwoofer and then that connects to the Receiver. I will double check though. Anything else this could be? I was thinking some sort of setting maybe on the receiver?
