Questions on Video connections to Plasma TV

I won a Microtek 42" plasma TV earlier this year. I am using it as part of a home theater I am putting in my basement.

Right now I have a DVD, VCR, and a Pioneer receiver hooked up to it. I also have Energy Take 5 speakers connected to the Receiver as well.

The problem I am having is I want to connect a Wii to the Plasma, but I have no more video in's to use. The TV only has 2 video in's and a component in.

Any suggestions on how to connect the Wii to the plasma with out losing any of the other hardware components ? If I had lose the VCR, I would be okay with that.

VSX-D608. And no, it does not have an HDMI connector.

Also the TV has (2) component in's, not just 1.

Re: Questions on Video connections to Plasma TV

DVD: Component-1 on TV
Wii: Component 2 on TV
VCR: composite or svideo (where most convenient)

automate the switching, if any with macros on your remote. Or get an external switchbox, if you only have one set of component video connections on your TV.

Thanks. I'll get a set of component video cables.

The plasma has a video and audio out to connect to a another monitor. Could I connect the Wii to the other monitor and transmit the video and audio over to the plasma ?

Re: Question on Video inputs on Plasma TV

For now run the DVD as component and the wii and VCR as video (yellow composite cable). If you receiver upconverts video to componet (likely) try just running a single component cable from the receiver to the TV and then plug in the Wii, VCR and DVD player to the receivers inputs.

You want to send a signal from another device to an output on your monitor? No, that won't work. An output only sends signals out. (Hence the name. )

What's the model number on your TV?

Re: Questions on Video connections to Plasma TV

Also, the Wii has a vga cable.

The video output is to connect the ATSC tuner to a VCR. There should be an HDMI input as well.

Re: Questions on Video connections to Plasma TV

According to the spec sheet at the Microtek site, your set has two composite inputs and only ONE component input. Composite connections are inferior pretty much all other inputs and should be your last resort. (The only worse connection between devices is a coax f-connector coming in on channel 3 or 4.)

(This line - "(3) Audio L/R (RCA) (Video, S-Video, Component)" indicates that there are 3 audio inputs that correspond to the composite video, s-video and component connections, not that there is an additional composite connection.)

Input Connections:
(1) Antenna (Analog)
(1) Antenna (Digital)
(1) VGA (D-Sub 15-pin)
(1) HDMI
(2) Composite Video
(2) S-Video
(1) Component (YPbPr)
(3) Audio L/R (RCA) (Video, S-Video, Component)
(1) Audio (VGA)

Output Connections:
(1) Composite Video
(1) Audio L/R (RCA)

If your DVD player has an HDMI output I'd use that to the TV and then run an optical or coax digital audio cable to the receiver for the digital sound. The Wii could then use the sole component input.

(The component video input consists of 3 RCA-style jacks, colored red, green and blue and labelled Y Pb Pr)

The VCR should connect via S-video (preferable, if available) or composite.

Joe

Re: Question on Video inputs on Plasma TV

If you get a Wii component cable, you can hook up the Wii to the 2nd component video input on the plasma (the Wii would be outputting 480p 16x9 via the component video connection).

Re: Question on Video inputs on Plasma TV

According to the Microtek website, the only 42" plasma they make has one component input and two composite inputs. As I also noted in the other thread Zing started on this topic. (In "HT Basics" area, I think.)

Thanks, but that's the wrong TV. I think these are the spec's from their current 42" plasma.

The plasma I have does have 2 component video & 2 composite video connectors. I also have no HDMI input.

When connecting the DVD, do I bypass the receiver ? I don't see any component connectors on it ?

If so, how do I use my surround speakers when playing a DVD ?

Re: Question on Video inputs on Plasma TV

I have ordered a Wii component cable. But I still have a question about hooking up the DVD.

If I hook up the DVD player using a component cable, do I bypass the reveiver ? I don't see a component connector on the receiver.

If so, how do I use the speakers that are connected to the receiver when playing a DVD ?

Re: Questions on Video connections to Plasma TV

Yes, bypass the receiver for video. Connect a Toslinkk/spdif from the dvd to your receiver. Connect the Component cables (YPrPb) to your TV.

The Component video connectors are often color coded Red, Green, and Blue, and are labeled as such.

I meant what does the Toslink cable connector look like, but I figured it out and it works.

The Wii is set-up, the DVD player is connected, and I have sound from the speakers.

Thanks Again.

Re: Questions on Video connections to Plasma TV

from what i read it sounds like you left out the vcr
most dvd players do have inputs on them, so if you want you can plug the vcr into the dvd player and then take that from the tv
but it sounds like your good now

I got the cables in the mail on Monday and hooked up the Wii. This did work, but the color was way off and there was this terrible buzzing sound coming from the speakers.

I would not recommend buying these cables.
