Need help with this setup please...

TV: Polaroid 42” LCD 4241-TLXB

Time Warner Cable box with HD and DVR integrated

DVD player: Xbox 360 Elite (connected to TV by HDMI cable)

Nintendo Wii with the upgraded component cable

Receiver RCA RT-2770 with optical

I currently own all of the equipment except the RCA receiver, that is a gift I am about to receive. All the other components tie into the TV very well and I am happy with the setup. The home theater is a cheap one, but I am happy to get it as a gift. I want to make sure my TV, Xbox, and Wii will pump sound through the Home Theater. The receiver has limited inputs, but it looks like it comes with an optical input and my TV has one as well. Will an optical connection make sure that all of my components have sound through the home theater? I would appreciate any advice on this since by boss is going to order the system tomorrow. First post for me!

Re: Need help with this setup please...

You should be OK, although I don't know what your connection options are with either the Wii or the cable box DVR. (Would need the make and model for that - meaning the manufacturer info, not the cable company.)

Your TV has 2 HDMI inputs which will carry digital audio along with video, and two digital output, one coax, one optical, which will send digital sound to your receiver. It has no other digital audio inputs beyond the 2 HDMI ports.

The receiver has only 2 digital inputs - one of each type. It doesn't do HDMI switching, but that may not be a problem for you. Between the TV and the receiver you're going to be tight on full 5.1 connections.

Cable box: HDMI to TV.

XBox: HDMI to TV.

TV to Receiver - Coax or optical out from TV to RCA

Wii - Have never seen one and know nothing about them. Between this and the XBox I'm going to guess you have at least one device with component outputs and a digital audio output, and at least one that has HDMI. So hook one of them up to the TV with component and to the receiver with a digital audio cable, and the other with HDMI. That should cover you.
