All of this talk of age limits but isn't it depending on the state? Since she's 16 doesn't that give her the "legal" right to make her decision? From what I've gathered the sex happened in a state where you had to be 18 and that's where the trouble is. Had they been in a state where the age was 16 then nothing would have happened legally.As for the points regarding the age, I haven't any kids but I think I'd rather have a 16-year-old pregnant by a 40 year old man who could take care of the child over some 16-year-old punk working 4 hours a week that couldn't take care of a cold.
As for the whole issue, my girlfriend has 12-year-old girls and it's sad to think that they are looking at people like this as some sort of anti-hero or whatever. People can call them sluts, whores, bitches, white trash or whatever else and it's probably not fair but they are role models to teenage girls so them getting pregnant is a lot more serious than Mrs. Backseat on the Bus getting pregnant.
Of course, the media could always look up to "good girls" but all they want to show is the "bad girls".
