hello.
I've got an old, ISF calibrated, still ass kickin TW56X81 CRT RPTV that is capable of 1080i - Direct TV HD stations blow you away. No HDMI tho..
I've read some posts that indicate the Oppo upconverting player will upconvert standard DVD's via the colorsrtream inputs. Some posts say it wont do this with copy protected dvd's. Its not clear to me. So if the OPPO player will upconvert via colorstream, to 1080I? My set doesnt do 720p
So just so i am clear on his,,., Am I out of luck with this RPTV for DVD upconversion? My library is about 300 standard DVD's. If upconverting WILL work I would invest in a player. If not, I''ll stick with my old panny RP56.
I am hoping our
I look forward to your wisdom on this

Re: Hd or Blu ray upconverting for colorstream inputs
I also have the samsung SIR-165, and used it to upconvert to 1080i via component video inputs on my old 1080i HDTV CRT, but then I upgraded to a plasma HDTV set with HDMI. My old HDTV set is now relegated to being my bedroom TV, and the SIR-165 is still in use as both the ATSC HD tuner and DVD upconverter.

Re: Hd or Blu ray upconverting for colorstream inputs
Well, my old 4x3 RPTV HDTV set didn't do the 16x9 squeeze on 480i/480p material, so I was forced to use the SIR-T165 to upconvert DVD material to 1080i so that I could employ the 16x9 squeeze on 16x9-encoded DVDs upconverted to 1080i. So, if you mean going from yucky downconversion by the DVD player via the component video input, to getting all the lines of resolution from the upconvert by the SIR-T165 and then employing the squeeze, I was definitely seeing a better picture with the upconverting by the SIR-T165. Damn, this feels like ancient history, but I had this setup for around 5 years before swapping out the old TV with the plasma set.
