Did a search but found nothing.

I just bought a Sony S301 Blu Ray player. Dp I have to worry about firmware upgrades? I know the Samsung has had to do alot of them. Also If I do need them what website do I go to? I know you can just burn the data off the net and cdr it to the machie but I checked sonys site and found nothing. Lastly do I have tio register my player?

Thanks

Re: Sony Firmware upgrades?

Go to this link... http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...pl?mdl=BDPS301

I had to upgrade the f/w on my recently acquired BDP-S300. Download the f/w and follow the instructions to make a ISO image disk. Sony states that you must use a blank DVD disc, but every piece of s/w that I had (including specific packages to build ISO disks) would not build it on a DVD. I eventually used a blank -R CD-ROM disc and it built the image just fine.

Re: Sony Firmware upgrades?

It's not too bad... Once you figure out that the ISO image wants to be burned onto a CD... I also found that Sony's description of the steps/events wasn't quite correct. Luckily for me, I left it to do it's thing and when I returned about 35-40 minutes after it started the upgrade, I found the tray door open and the unit off. I removed the disc and powered the unit up and all was good. I guess what I'm saying is, that once you initiate the firmware upgrade... Walk away! And stay away for at least 30 minutes...

Re: Sony Firmware upgrades?

First of all I failed to understand why Sony cannot simply provide the firmware in an ISO format, ready for people to simply burn onto a CD/DVD. By the way, there is no difference between an ISO file for CD or one for DVD. Any ISO making software can make an ISO, which can be burnt to CD and/or DVD. There are lots of freeware software available for making ISO files and for burning them to disc. For buring the ISO image to a disk, CD and/or DVD, simply download IMGBurn. As for links for the software themselves, Internet search, Live, Google, Yahoo, whichever you prefer, is your friend.

uh... Because it's Sony??? I am very aware of ISO formats/files, but I can tell you that will the MANY different pieces of ISO software that I have, I continued to make DVD coasters until I tried using a -R CD-ROM. I am not the only person to experience this issue. Do i have the time to pursue why it does it? No... Do I really care? Not really since I now know to try a -R CD-ROM first. Besides CD-ROM balnks are cheaper than DVD blanks.
