WHV Press Release: Classic Musicals From The Dream Factory Volume 3
Re: WHV Press Release: Classic Musicals From The Dream Factory Volume 3
And Thousand Cheers, Broadway Rhythm, Two Girls and a Sailor, It Happened in Brooklyn, Rosalie, Honolulu, Little Nellie Kelly, The Kissing Bandit, Broadway Serenade, Luxury Liner, Ship Ahoy, Panama Hattie, Two girls on Broadway, Dancing Co-ed, Two sisters from Boston, not to mention the remaining Esther Williams musicals and the Eddy/MacDonald operettas...But, what can I say, this new box set was an incredible surprise. Can't wait to put my hands on this.

...And, although not an MGM musical but (I think) controlled by WB and as it was her last Hollywood musical...Jane Powell's "The Girl Most Likely" (possibly as an added attraction in the Jane Powell set?)Re: WHV Press Release: Classic Musicals From The Dream Factory Volume 3

Not really a musical with just one song. It was made into a Broadway musical called "Carnival". "Carnival" was never made into a movie.
Great movie. I hope one day it is restored with great color. The VHS and TCM showings looked washed out. Never saw it on laser disc.

One song but two dream ballets. True, not really a musical but not strictly a dramatic film either.
Re: WHV Press Release: Classic Musicals From The Dream Factory Volume 3
THE GIRL MOST LIKELY would be a nice inclusion if they bring out TOM, DICK, AND HARRY on the Ginger Rogers set. I am surprise that the studios don't use more remake combos (e.g., IMITATION OF LIFE, the upcoming SHOW BOATs).Charles Hoyt
Re: WHV Press Release: Classic Musicals From The Dream Factory Volume 3
Speaking of MGM musicals, am I the only one who would welcome a Connie Francis box set with When The Boys Meet The Girls (a pop remake of the Gershwins Girl Crazy), Looking For Love and Follow The Boys?Re: WHV Press Release: Classic Musicals From The Dream Factory Volume 3
I think the Classic Musicals From the Dream Factory sets are used to showcase lesser known musical films (not by their fans) . This is as opposed to films such as 'Singin' In the Rain or 'Wizard of Oz" which are much better known. To date this series has mostly been lesser known films by the big three, Astaire, Garland, and Kelly. Its nice that they moving on to films of other lesser known (today) stars. I don't think you will find the new versions of "An American In Paris" or "Showboat" as part of these sets in the future.Re: WHV Press Release: Classic Musicals From The Dream Factory Volume 3
If you pay attention closely, you'll find out that this new set is almost entirely dedicated to Eleanor and Jane Powell, since just Kismet has none of them in its cast.Maybe this is the wisest choice for WB to showcase these great and talented artists, the most viable marketing form to display their films on dvd and yet have profits with it, assuring more volumes to come.
Thank you WB, for me this is the best dvd set of 2008 announced to date.
Re: WHV Press Release: Classic Musicals From The Dream Factory Volume 3
I too was kind of hoping for a set of just Eleanor Powell, but I'm loving this just the same since the 2 films of hers I most wanted were the Broadway Melodies.I haven't been this excited about a DVD release in a while.
Most-wanted R1s: The Patsy (1927); Personal Property (1937); Ever Since Eve (1937); Hold Back the Dawn (1941); Two-Faced Woman (1941); Kitty (1945); Yolanda and the Thief (1945); Black Magic (1949); Rapture (1965)

Re: WHV Press Release: Classic Musicals From The Dream Factory Volume 3
I would also love to see "When The Boys Meet The Girls", "Looking For Love" and "Follow The Boys" on dvd especially "Looking for Love" as that has never be released in any format before. I would love to see a box set of several films never before released in any format. At least I still have the Laserdiscs of "When The Boys Meet The Girls" and "Follow The Boys".Let me also add I would like to see some early 30's Musicals in future collections like "New Moon" (with Grace Moore), "Cuban Love Song", "Hollywood Party", "Broadway to Hollywood", "Hollywood Revue". I would like to add "Mrs. Brown You Got A Lovely Daughter" a favorite film from the 1960's.

With regard to Deep in My Heart, the 5.1 mix on the Composers Laser box set from the 1990's was phenomenal. If WHV utilizes the same one for the DVD, that would be fine with me. While we're on the subject, why hasn't Rhino released a CD of the soundtrack? Or stopped releasing those great soundtracks in general? |

Is there any artwork yet for these? Judging from the last two sets, I would assume the artwork will be variations on the original posters.
Re: WHV Press Release: Classic Musicals From The Dream Factory Volume 3
I would love the see Athena remixed for stereo using the Rhino stereo music tracks.I would also to seeLeslie Caron in Glass Slipper, also in stereo using the rhino stereo tracks.

Joe,
I agree with you.
It's too bad Warner Bros released "I'll Cry Tomorrow" in mono although the stereo tracks still exist, they are also available on Rhino records.

Speaking of ATHENA, I would be glad if the footage for "Faster Than Sound" survives. Also, in the trailer, there is a bit of a dance number with Athena and the girls prior to the muscle man contest that is not in the film.Re: WHV Press Release: Classic Musicals From The Dream Factory Volume 3
What a thrill to hear about these classic MGM musicals finally coming to DVD! Thanks to Warners and George Feltenstein for keeping the faith with the fans!!!
Re: WHV Press Release: Classic Musicals From The Dream Factory Volume 3
WOW!!!!!!!! I am SO overjoyed about this set!!! Every single title in it is a winner. To have all of them in one boxset is too marvellous for words. I am delirious about the Eleanor and Jane combo disks. I know what I will be asking for for my birthday in April

Thank you once more to Warner - 2008 is not even here yet, but it's already a great year thanks to this (and other) releases.

That's an interesting box cover. It looks like nothing compared to the first 2 volumes. And the cover only includes the cast from Lady Be Good. Most Wanted on DVD: Little Nellie Kelly (1940), Bachelor Mother (1939), Tin Pan Alley (1940), Mother Wore Tights (1947), Easy to Love (1953), The Devil and Miss Jones (1941), Theodora Goes Wild (1936), Penelope (1966), The Opposite Sex (1956), Lovely to Look At (1952), Naughty...
Re: WHV Press Release: Classic Musicals From The Dream Factory Volume 3
cover looks kind of public domain, would of been nice if they kept it uniform. I'm not going to lose sleep or anything, it looks like an awesome set

Re: WHV Press Release: Classic Musicals From The Dream Factory Volume 3
I like the new cover art, but it doesn't make sense to just have the cast from Lady Be Good.Corey's most wanted R1 dvds:
Little Darlings (1980), My Cousin Rachel (1952), The Deep Blue Sea (1955), The White Cliffs of Dover (1944), Born to Be Bad (1950), Ivy (1947), Reckless (1935), Springtime in the Rockies (1942), The Barretts of Wimpole Street
Re: WHV Press Release: Classic Musicals From The Dream Factory Volume 3
I think the cover art, as presented, serves as a dis-service to the likes of Jane Powell, etal., who are in all the enclosed set. It makes no sense to limit the proposed cover to that sort of image when the content is so rich and varied.(Just my opinion)
Re: WHV Press Release: Classic Musicals From The Dream Factory Volume 3
I prefered the poster pastich thing they did on other sets like the noirs more. I'm guessing they chose this picture since it's just so darned happy. I'm sure the discs themselves will have full poster art. What I'm listening to right now!
