How do I turn part of footage from a dvd to a computer file? (not a copyrighted dvd)

I have some home video of my kids I put onto a dvd. I want to take a few minutes of the video and turn it into a file that I can use in a slide show program. I am using Powerdvd to play the dvd.

Any help in layman's terms would be appreciated.
Thanks!!

Bring back John Doe! Or at least resolve the cliff-hanger with a 2hr movie or as an extra on a dvd release.

If it is just a picture that you need, pause the movie at the moment you want. Then use print screen and paste into paintbrush. You can the save it from there.
