Venturer SHD7000 v. Toshiba HD-A3

The owner's manual for the Venturer SHD7000 is finally up: Link

So we can compare it with the existing Toshiba models.

Which one should we compare it with, exactly? Let's proceed by elimination. The second-generation models had the drive on the left, and the third-gen on the right. The SHD7000 has the drive on the right, so we should compare it with 3G models. It doesn't output 1080p, so that rules out the A30 and the A35. That leaves us with the HD-A3.

Okay, let us compare it with the A3. The Toshiba US site doesn't have the A3 manual available for download yet. Fortunately, it is up at the Toshiba Canada site.

All pictures are posted A3 first, SHD7000 second.

1. Front panel

Differences:
The A3 has two skip buttons, and a pause button. The SHD7000 doesn't have them.

2. Rear panel

Here absolutely everything is identical.

3. Front display

The display for the A3 includes a (non-used) p alongside the 1080i signal. Otherwise identical.

4. Remote

5. On-screen menus

6. Inside pictures
Awaiting material.

Re: Venturer SHD7000 v. Toshiba HD-A3

Greetings

One assembly line makes Toshiba A3 players ... the second line makes Venturer players.

One goes in the Kellogs box ... the other the generic box.

Re: Venturer SHD7000 v. Toshiba HD-A3

The big selling point of the SHD7000 originally was that it would be the first HD DVD player to retail below $200. But with the A3 now selling below $200 (can be found online for $160 at the moment) is the SHD7000 relevant anymore? At roughly the same price point I would choose a brand I know (Toshiba) over one I don't. Although, to answer my own question, I suppose with all else being equal I don't guess it truly matters.
