I wasn't planning on getting one yet. I was waiting for the price to come down to about $199.00 or below but when I saw it today I just couldn't resist. The price is $379.00 with $100 instant rebate taken off at cash register.
It's $80 more than I my expected price. Glad I didn't buy it last week because it was $347.00
The deal will end 11/25/07
Can't wait to go home and hook it up.

Re: Sony Blu-ray BDP S 301 at BJ's for $279.99

I just happened to stop by at Bj's again last night to pick up some stuff.
I walked by the Bluray section and they're all sold out. I wonder if they let poeple take a rain check. So far I love the picture quality. It looks much better than the picture on my HD-DVR shows that I tape every night. My TV only support up to 720P that's it. I let it set to auto and it display it at 1080i
Will 1080P make a difference in picture quality I wonder?
I'm gonna try to sell my set to my brother and get myself 1080p set.

You should see no discernable difference between 1080i and 1080p, however going to a true 1080p set may take an extra down/upconversion out of the equation.

Just left my BJ's and even the display unit was gone. Just as well, since I just dropped some bucks on an HD-DVD player. Of not, I would have been sorely tempted and I'm sure will be again down the road. But I think I'm gonna need a new receiver before I go dual formats.

Stupid question... How can you tell what your TV's HD specs are? At the time I bought my rear projector Pioneer SD-533HD5 the numbers 720, 1080i and 1080p didn't mean a whole lot to me.

The manual should say which formats it will accept. Most RPTV sets from that era would not accept 720P at all. The real exception seemed to be the Panasonic with 9" CRT's.

Because that's what it said so in the manual. It supports 720p and 1080i
1080p was new at that time and very expensive.

may be this will help you understand the difference between those numbers.
