Theatrical Cartoons - Academy Award Winners and Nominees assembled on DVD

This is kind of neat - a collage of classic cartoons on both a one-disc (winners) and a three-disc (winners & nominees) collection.

Tom & Jerry itself has 7 Oscars and several nominations; Bugs Bunny won just one (???) and has a couple nominations (or just one with A Wild Hare, I'm not sure if he picked up one more after his debut).

Of course, this set is limited because Warners doesn't own everything, so the Woody Woodpecker Oscar-nominated shorts are excluded, as are The Pink Panther.

But it does include Popeye and Superman, so it sounds like an interesting set, to say the least.

Re: Theatrical Cartoons - Academy Award Winners and Nominees assembled on DVD

Either collection makes sense to release, but why should one buy them? The majority of the selections appeared in Looney Tunes one through four or Tom and Jerry one through two. Neither of the latest Looney Tunes Five or Tom and Jerry Three collections appear to have any Academy Award winners or nominees. If a person buys all the animated sets, and will eventually have all the titles, why buy either of these box sets?

I hope A Wild Hare includes the original title card that UCLA found instead of the rather boring Blue Ribbon we're used to.

The GAC post linked above indicates that A Wild Hare and Hiawatha's Rabbit Hunt have their original titles. However, it also points out that the MGM cartoons and new-to-DVD WB cartoons haven't been restored and that interlacing problems affect the bulk of the set. I shan't be buying.
