October Road - season 2 premiere 11/22/07

I'm reviving this thread to remind everyone that this returns Thanksgiving night after an all-new "Grey's Anatomy", then moves to its new regular timeslot - Mondays at 10pm EST on the 26th. Is anyone else looking forward to the new season?

(Admin note, post split off from first season thread for October Road.)

Re: October Road - season 2 premiere 11/26/07

Technically, the season premiere is this Thursday, although ABC is advertising it as a "sneak preview episode". Is it possible for the title thread to change to reflect this? Thanks.

If anyone has SOAPnet, you can catch all six episodes of the first season and a rebroadcast of this Thursday's season premiere, this Saturday at 12pm EST.

Disney/Buena Vista/Miramax: Please put Beautiful Girls on Blu-ray with bonus features and the original theatrical trailer in 1080p, and an anamorphic re-release with bonus features and the original theatrical trailer day-and-date on DVD. Thanks!

Why did they call last night's episode a "Sneak Preview"? It seemed like a fairly important episode.

Yeah, I don't get that at all. I was watching it last night while they kept saying the season premiere was this Monday. Thought maybe I had missed last night's episode at the end of last season or something without realizing it.

Re: October Road - season 2 premiere 11/22/07

The show lost more than 7 million viewers from its lead-in.

I don't know what the hell the people in marketing were thinking (and not to mention spoiling the surprise ending). They should have stayed with their original plan to air the season premiere on Monday night.

Yikes. I'm afraid of what Monday will bring.

ABC has DANCING which should do very well, and SAMANTHA WHO which is a very funny show and should keep much of the audience, but not even I plan on watching NOTES FROM THE UNDERGROUND or whatever it is called. I can't imagine it will retain the majority of those that watch SAMANTHA. Then OCTOBER, opposite CSI? Will this be another series that gets the plug pulled pretty fast?

I hope not, but that is the way TV works.

The official site at ABC.com has two sneak peeks at next week's new episode, including a hilarious scene with Hannah and Big Cat's ex-wife. This can't me missed.

This show and Journeyman seem to have bad ratings in the same time-slot. DOes that mean everybody is watching CSI: Miami? I gave up on that show a couple of seasons ago.

I can't believe that ABC is keeping "October Road" in its current timeslot after "Notes from the Underbelly", which is one of the factors for the low ratings. The other is because the show was on a long hiatus from its May Season 1 finale (and they never re-aired the first season besides the SOAPnet marathon Thanksgiving weekend, although they did have the last four episodes that were broadcasted online, but the pilot and the second episode weren't put back up until close to the DVD release date). And not to mentioned the whole confusion over the "sneak preview episode" versus "season premiere" advertisements. The good news is they will be airing all 13 episodes that were ordered and scripted before the strike. The bad news is the ratings haven't improved enough to guarantee a third season. I would like to think with the writers' strike still going on, there's time to get those ratings up. This series already has a vocal fan base and I know they are already trying to get more viewers (vie the online episodes/DVD release/iTunes/e-mails to ABC which did help secure OR on the 2007 fall schedule). Gord Lacey's favorable review on TVShowsOnDVD.com will certainly help get the word out as well, in my opinion.

Tonight is the last new episode of the year, but returns January 7th.

Even though it was weak how the 'Cupcake Kid' made such a quick and easy turnaround, I really enjoyed the 'Paradise by the Dashboard Light' montage at the end. Great stuff. Big Cat is a Big Dick!

Re: October Road - season 2 premiere 11/22/07

I'm resurrecting this thread for the final three episodes of Season 2. There’s a new episode tonight and the two-hour season finale next Monday at 9/8c.

Has anyone else been listening to the podcasts on the official ABC website? There have been some interesting tidbits from co-creators Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec. They've even talked briefly about their prior series with series co-creator Scott Rosenberg, "Going to California". They've also had several of the cast members timed to sum up the series and their characters. I think Lindy Booth ("Pizza Girl") holds the record as far as the shortest time.

If you haven't listened to them yet, check them out. They're entertaining and great listen.

Re: October Road - season 2 premiere 11/22/07

Haven't been listening to the podcasts but have to say last night's episode was probably the series very best.

And it answered the burning question, are Knights Ridge and Bishop Flats the same town? No, they are three towns away.

And to be even more of a Rosenberg geek, Cradle Bay, the town where they went on the road trip to a few weeks ago, was the town in his film DISTURBING BEHAVIOR.

How can you go wrong with a show that features Cinderella's 'Coming Home', Skid Row's 'I Remember You' and NES Tecmo Bowl all in one episode?

I didn't realize Scott also wrote "Disturbing Behavior". I saw the film a few years back, but totally missed the reference to it on "October Road".

Re: October Road - season 2 premiere 11/22/07

Wow, I've been a fan and supporter of this show since the first day it aired but that was downright horrible on so many levels. Did they know this could be the last episode and just wanted to see how many implausible bombshells they could drop on the audience in one two hour span?

Let's see what we've got...

- Eddie kisses ex-girlfriend for 4 seconds, which also happens to be the window in which Janet drives by to see it.
- Janet freaks out and sleeps with Rooster.
- After all along saying he didn't want to leave, Nick suddenly changes his mind as soon as he finds out about his father's cancer.
- Owen forgives the guy who slept with his wife just because he "stepped up" in the Eddie beating.
- Big Cat formulates the most elaborate of elaborate plans to make it look like he was against the beating.
- Last, and of course not least...younger bro professes his love for older bro's girl...followed by girl kissing younger bro in front of the whole crowd of people.

Did I miss anything? It's a wonder they fit all that into 80 minutes!

Re: October Road - season 2 premiere 11/22/07

There's a rumor that The CW and Lifetime have expressed interest in picking up "October Road" for a third season, if ABC cancels it. I know The CW is phasing out their comedy department and focusing primarily on serials and reality series, so there would be room for them to take on this series. I don't know how true this, but we shall see.

In an addition to my previous post, I have two more things to add:

ABC.com has a blog titled "Live from L.A." and Dave Campbell (who's also a fan) has asked if "October Road" should be renewed and why -- well, there's been an overwhelming (and fast) response in favor of its renewal. If you would like to add to the responses, here's the link:

ABC.com: Live from L.A.

There's also a petition started by fans here (in case anyone wants to sign it):

ABC- save October Road Petition : [ powered by iPetitions.com ]

And as for the season finale, Scott, personally there's a part of me that would like to have a little more closure in case it doesn't come back, but I enjoyed it. Also, I thought the previous week's episode was really, really good.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Lifetime has passed on picking this up, along with "Men in Trees".

Lifetime passes on 'Road,' 'Trees'

There's no word from The CW yet about a possible move there.

Re: October Road - season 2 premiere 11/22/07

I've updated post #16.

There are also three more additional updates:

1) I've also confirmed that the same address in post #16 can also be used to snail mail ABC Entertainment President Stephen McPherson, who's a fan of "Beautiful Girls" and fought to get "October Road" on the air in the first place. These are the three people at ABC fans are writing letters to.

2) Fans on the ABC.com message board have started a campaign to save the series. If you would like to participate, you can do so here:

October Road - Message Boards - ABC.com

And here's the thread to print off the (revised) letter to be mailed to ABC:

October Road - Message Boards - ABC.com

If you're participating in the "Pay October Road Forward" campaign, please indicate what your pledge is here:

Pay October Road Forward for Season 3, 4 & MORE! | YouChoose

3) There's also a sponsors list put together for products that were advertised during the two hour season finale on March 10th:

Got a tennis racket? What to see "the band back together"? Please send 1 tennis racket to ABC executives Stephen McPherson (President of ABC Primetime and a fellow fan) and/or Anne Sweeney (President of the Disney-ABC Television Group and Stephen's boss) to arrive on the target date of Monday, October 27. Send with it a note along the lines of "We want the band back together".

Anne Sweeney, President
Disney-ABC Television Group
3800 W. Alameda Ave., Room 504

If you don't own one or know someone who does, you can drop by your nearest sporting goods store or a garage sale (you can also try a thrift store), take it home with you and beat it up a little - to show the wear and tear due to use and passage of time, though Physical Phil kept it in pretty good shape when he gave it back to Nick ten years later). You'll need to contact your local Post Office with the size and weight of your tennis racket(s).

"Friday Night Lights" fans sent footballs to NBC, "Jericho" fans sent nuts, while "Roswell" fans (life myself) sent bottles of Tabasco sauce to The WB and UPN. This all resulted in their shows being resurrected (along with heavy letter writing, phone calls, and e-mails, though in "Roswell's" case, twice on two separate networks). So find that tennis racket or purchase one, keep advertising, keeping writing (don't forget to put some leaves in the envelopes and if you're also sending postcards, send one of your small town or hometown and find one with an autumn theme), and let's get a third season for "October Road"!
