Hey..I build pc's on the side and I seem to be having a problem. Seems anymore when I build them they have a hard time turning off.
I go to START, Turn off Computer and choose to turn it off....Then it sometimes reboots or turns off halfway "but not really"..What the heck is the problem?

Re: Need some pc help ASAP

BIOS and/or OS drivers for the hardware (motherboard, disk controllers, etc.) Generally speaking, you try and get the latest version of everything, then hope for the best. It's possible that the latest versions simply do not work reliably (yet). That's one risk of building your own. You can try different combinations of stuff. Older hardware and OSes (like XP instead of Vista) are probably more likely to work, since they've had a chance to iron out these problems.

Re: Need some pc help ASAP

Are you using the same motherboard in every build? If so, what is the brand and model number? It may simply be a driver/BIOS issue with a particular motherboard as Ken mentioned. The fix might be as simple as a BIOS or driver update, or you may have to switch to another motherboard entirely.

Re: Need some pc help ASAP

I had a similar problem. I tracked it down to the video card. I forget the exacts - something to do with a non-agp video card ... I'll try to remember..

edit - still working on it. The card I was using had an onboard video card. I installed a PCI video card. There was a file which didn't install when I put in the driver software. When I reinstalled it everything went fine. It hs something to do with it being PCI and not AGP. I wish I could remember more. I hope this is helpful...
