Re: Family Ties Season Three on the Way

yay, at least one 1980's sitcom I'm collecting is finally making some progress on DVD (I'm not counting Roseanne and Golden Girls since those two shows are blockbusters in syndication and no one in their right mind would've figured they would fail on DVD)

Wow this is amazing, I was happy to get the first season...now we will be up to the 3rd. Heres hoping this doesnt go the way of Facts of Life and suddenly stop.

Re: Family Ties Season Three on the Way

They stopped Cheers dead in its tracks at season 8 with three left. When all seven seasons of this show are available I'll breathe easy.

What music was there on season 3 that will go bye-bye on DVD? The song Elyse sings as she goes into labor, "Those Endearing Young Charms" (best known for its use in a Bugs Bunny cartoon), is so old it's probably PD.

Re: Family Ties Season Three on the Way

Usually songs that cast members sing are left intact. Because there is no need to clear the original recording-just the song itself.

It is great to see the release of own of my all time favorite series progressing so quickly!

Re: Family Ties Season Three on the Way

well, if Paramount abandons Family Ties after season 5, I'd be a little disappointed but I'll live. Seasons 2-5 are the best IMO, the last two seasons were downhill

Re: Family Ties Season Three on the Way

I think Family Ties has a good shot of being released in whole. I am assuming the sales of season 1 were strong. The fact that they actually added bonus features to that season after none on the first is very rare! I am assuming those sales are partially attributed to the fact Family Ties is not airing in Syndication or on any cable channel like those other series.

Re: Family Ties Season Three on the Way

I hope you're right, but it seems like for the most part, 80's fans get screwed the most in terms of "season one and done" type of shows, so until we get at least a season 6 announcement for the show (if they release 6, why wouldn't they release the final season?). Family Ties is one of my faves from that era and a show I definately link to my childhood (along with Diff'rent Strokes, Facts Of Life, Cosby, ALF and some other NBC shows from the 80's) and it's one of the best in terms of holding up 20-someodd years later that I'd love to finish the series

nope, that was Warner. Paramount is the company that stopped Taxi dead in it's tracks after releasing half the seasons, and gave up on Cheers after eight seasons.

I was surprised that this show wasn't released ealier this decade, but perhaps it's better that it waited and it was one of the shows of the mid 80s and Michael J Fox's popularity has endured

Re: Family Ties Season Three on the Way

This is great news, indeed!I am about three quarters of the way through season 2,and am enjoying it immensely. The show is just as good now as it was watching it during it's original run - and in syndication over the years.I'm also glad we didin't have to wait a long time wondering if,or when, season 3 is going to be released. Can't wait til February 12!

Re: Family Ties Season Three on the Way

I will take it as a positive sign that S3 was announced so quickly after seeing the release of S2. In many cases you find if S2 does not sell as well as S1 you hit a road block for future releases. So early sales for S2 must indicate something good. Things can change down the road, but all in all so far so good. Keep Em Coming!

I think that is the key - Michael J. Fox is still very popular. Even if new audiences did not see this in its original run they know of him from the Back to the Future films and Spin City constantly being on cable.

There's a review up at sitcomsonline. This set has syndication promos, like season 2 did,and a gag reel, which I don't think think was mentioned in the news items at tvshowsondvd.com.

I like Todd Fuller's suggestion of CBS/Paramount releasing "Family Ties Vacation" as a separate release. For me, I'm not buying the series because of music replacements, and if I can get one "Family Ties" release it would be this one as it’s among my favorite and holds a very special place in my heart. I don't recall if there are any issues with music for this TV movie, but I certainly don't want them to use this as an "exclusive" for a complete series set down the road like they did with "MacGyver". Now would be a good time to e-mail CBS.

Disney/Buena Vista/Miramax: Please put Beautiful Girls on Blu-ray with bonus features and the original theatrical trailer in 1080p, and an anamorphic re-release with bonus features and the original theatrical trailer day-and-date on DVD. Thanks!
