Well the monitor tells you what signal you are getting from the player. If my blu-ray player is set to 1080p its going to say 1080p on the monitor even if the material on the disc is 1080i. The blu-ray player will convert that material from interlaced to progressive. Although my player tends to switch to whatever the native format on the disc is.

Contrast that with the "real" PIP on the Resident Evil extinction which causes the audio to mute for a moment while the player switches over to the alternate track. I wasn't very impressed. I hope that's an implimentation or firmware issue and not one that will represent PIP on all profile 1.1 software.

Sounds great then. Good to know, including that comparison of "real" PiP -- and I definitely agree w/ you on that. Thanks.

Re: Warner to release Terminator 3 on BD 12/4 - with In-Movie Experience

Just received in the mail my corrected Terminator 3 Blu-ray disc from Warner Home Video this evening.

Warner's replacement program:

Confirming our suspicions, Warner Home Video is taking information to send out replacement discs for the recent Blu-ray release of 'Terminator 3'. When the title is played without the In Movie Experience (IME) activated, the title plays at a maximum resolution of 1080i. Obviously, this is well short of the 1080p presentation promised on the cover. For a replacement disc, contact WHV Customer Support at 1-800-553-6937.

Something else interesting about the title, is that it was supposed to use seamless branching to provide the IME. But, if the non-IME version is 1080i and the IME version is 1080p, that suggest that two encodes of the movie are on disc (similar to 'The Descent') rather than use of seamless branching. That will be something to look for once the replacement discs arrive.

Letter that came with the replacement disc:

Dear Customer:

Enclosed please find a Blu-Ray replacement disc for Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.
When played, the Blu-Ray disc you originally purchased may indicate that the video played as 1080i instead of 1080P through some Blu-Ray players. The replacement disc you just received is 1080P high definition video as described on the packaging you originally purchased and will play correctly through any 1080P HD Blu-Ray compatible hardware.

Thank you for purchasing Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines in Blu-Ray format and for your patience while we processed your replacement disc.

Sincerely,

Warner Home Video

Re: Warner to release Terminator 3 on BD 12/4 - with In-Movie Experience

Hey Paul, good to hear replacements are going out. Did you have to do anything after the initial call to WB to get your replacement?

I called and gave them my info back in December I believe.
I was told someone would contact me when the disk was corrected.
I hadn't heard anymore about this until your post.

So, I was wondering if I should contact them again, or should I just expect to get something in the mail?

Just made the initial call in December, forgetting about it and it just showed up in the mail.

Skimmed through the movie last night and was thrilled at the PQ. Definitely a new and carefully authored disc.

As an aside, I want to thank Warner for their commitment to quality and customer satisfaction!

Re: Warner to release Terminator 3 on BD 12/4 - with In-Movie Experience

Is there any way to tell the difference between the new and old discs? (i.e. SKU on the packaging, different labels, etc.)

Thanks

Re: Warner to release Terminator 3 on BD 12/4 - with In-Movie Experience

Thanks for this thread guys. I need to check my disc tonight to see if I need to get a replacement copy or not (can't yet go 1080p to my display so I didn't know for sure... but want a corrected disc since I'll be upgrading to 1080p projector in the future)
