Amen! I love Chuck.

I'm sort of split on this show. It looks great, but I wonder how
long the "gimmick" can be sustained. The one thing that does keep
this show afloat more than anything else is the dialogue which is
always witty and clever. Loved the "skeletons in the closet" line.

Re: Pushing Daisies Season 1 thread

The worst scene for me (regarding Ned and Chuck almost touching) was when they smashed those monkeys together. If you watch it back in slow mo.... OMG, it looks like they touch. Freaks me out.

I have rewatched the pilot as well as Dummy over a few times now and I still really think this show is on to something. I think the writers will be able to make it work for multiple seasons.

*what would make this show really funny as far as musical numbers go, would be to see Olive sing Toucha Toucha Touch Me from Rocky Horror!*

Great second episode. Loved how quirky and funny and touching it was and loved the dance with the dog and floor cleaner guy. Hopelessly Devoted to you was wonderful.
It came in second after Deal or No Deal which is still crap in my book but at least Pushing Daisies did well.
I dont really get why people are so nervous about the two of them touching. It's not going to happen or the show is over.
Relax.
This and Aliens in America are clearly the two best comedies of the season.

Re: Pushing Daisies Season 1 thread

An interesting thing I think I may have caught from the last episode:

Note that when Ned brought the frogs back to life in boarding school and didn't touch all of them within a minute, the creatures that died as a result were birds. Whenever he's done this with humans it resulted in humans dying. I think this indicates that him failing to re-kill something within a minute results in the death of another creature of similar size or type.

i.e. his failure to re-kill the fly probably killed a moth, his failure to re-kill his dog probably killed a cat, his failure to re-kill a strawberry probably killed a grape.

So it would follow that he could not kill a human by failing to re-kill a fly or frog or strawberry, it would have to be another human.

Perhaps all this fear of Chuck and Ned touching is a good sign, you really like these two together. Good cheat using plastic as an insulator for Ned's power.

Of course we get that, but the fact is, it doesn't make me any less nervous knowing that. They stand waaaaaaay too close for my own sanity.

the show seems to forget Ned and Chuck's close proximity, they need to watch that because it's frankly scaring the shit out of me lol.
The single most important central point to the concept of the show??? Not a chance...it's all by design, and I love it. It's showing the audience the bomb under the table...classic. I can see the "behind the scenes" on the DVD already, talking about the intricate blocking of scenes to create that "OMG They're too close" reaction from the audience.

I really hope they don't go down that road. They can have her wrestle with "what if" but if they turn Olive into that kind of a cutthroat character it will destroy the sweetness in her yearning for Ned.

Mine too. It escapes me what entertainment value people find in watching the dumbass-of-the-moment open randomly picked suitcases. I assume someone else must own the copyright to "Watching Paint Dry" and will be debuting that during the mid-season.

I'd much rather watch a well-written, well-acted series with an actual entertaining plot. But, hey, that's just me.

I asked my parents if they liked the show. Ended up they only watched the second half of the first episode and thought all the voice-over narration was dumb.

On the upside, it may have come in second to picking suitcases, but it was #1 in the favored demographics.

Count me in!!

I think a lot of people are getting a bit OCD about the touching. I can't believe it never seemed to occur to most of you that the creators are messing with you. Hook, line and sinker. With all the outright crap all over TV, it's disappointing that this show is held under such a microscope by so many people. It's a fantasy. Go with it. Ron mentioned the dialog, which really is great. When I see all the unimaginitive dialog out there on TV. For some reason, I watched the premier of The Women's Murder Club last night, and Angie Harmon actually had the line "You're under arrest for pissing me off" as she slapped the cuffs on someone. I doubt anyone will be so harsh on that crappy show though.

As far as Hopelessly Devoted goes, I was glad to see Kristin get to sing in anything viewed outside Broadway. They should do it every episode, just to add to the quirkiness and use her to fuller potential.

Another fun episode!

The scenes with Digby were natural and delightful. My wife and I watched them a couple of times since they reminded us so much of our beloved "Bob."

I said it way back, that Sonnenfeld was putting the screws to the audience with that, but my post was pretty much ignored. The idea that they would be unaware of the blocking when it's the central "gimmick" of the show is absurd.

Re: Pushing Daisies Season 1 thread

Damn, I love this show. Really enjoyed this episode. The mystery was not so great, (I mean, there was really only one suspect once the girlfriend died), but the core of the show to me is the humour, the wonderful fantasy tone, and the heartbreaking love story. It's a sign of how well the show has worked that only after two episodes, we're already sitting there really anxious about them touching, and the ending where they got the car screen with the glove just melted my heart. (And no, I never thought about the placement of the glove until I came here).

And much as I despise Grease, dammit, when Kristen Chenowith started on "Hopelessly Devoted To You", I damn near died. Great scene, very funny, and I've been walking around since then with the song going through my mind. And I hate that.

Also, has it been stated that keeping an animal alive more than a minute will cause the death of another animal? or could it cause a human to die? When he touched all the frogs, how did he know that all his classmates werent going to start dropping dead?
It hasn't been stated, but as Steve suggested, I think it's implied by the instances that we have seen that it results in the deaths of a like being. Animals for animals, people for people, fruit for fruit.

I finally caught an episode of this afer missing the pilot. "weird like Monk feel" states it pretty well - I think this show would be perfect on USA.

I'm not sure what to think. It's a little too cutesy for my tastes - A car that runs on dandelions that looks to be straight from Dr. Seuss? I think I would like it better if they played it straight, or at least straighter.

Some of the jokes were laugh out loud funny, though, so guess I'll keep tuning in for a while.

Re: Pushing Daisies Season 1 thread

I found the start of the episode a little too morose, purposefully so, but it ended well enough, plus Olive knows a secret and she seems content to sit on it until she can truly pull the rug out from under Chuck.

Some of the dialogue was pretty good, especially the wry delivery by Emerson. Also Emerson's Pooh imitation was kinda funny. Kick!

Great episode. This one was far more enjoyable then "Dummy". There is one thing that bothered me though...

When Ned was wandering through the basement of the funeral home, he touched the dead people who were only covered by a sheet and they came to life.... so is plastic the only thing that keeps Ned from re-killing Chuck? If they had a sheet between them, would she die if they touched?

Just saw the episode on the West Coast, and Ned clearly touches both dead bodies on the hand with his own hand. It's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it, but it's clearly skin on skin contact.

Re: Pushing Daisies Season 1 thread

I thoroughly enjoyed Fun in Funeral episode.
Even better than the "Dummy" episode.

I loved Emerson's reaction after Chuck slammed the coffin shut and got stuck.
also his line about "I can smoke a cigar with you" to Louis.

The traveling Anti-depressant drug salesman was suppose to me a role for Paul Reubens. I guess there's a bigger role for him down the road. UPDATED Paul Reubens will be in the episode "Smell of Success" on Nov 21st, playing a character called Oscar Vibenius

Fantastic writing/dialogue and the way it flows.
Almost like poetry.

My favorite is when Emerson and Olive are together.

and I'm not sure how new this news is but, Pushing Daisies got picked up for a FULL SEASON!!!

I suspect the intention was to imply that Ned actually touched some exposed portion of their bodies with his hand.

As noted by JohnDH above it wasn't implied, it was pretty clear that he touched body parts (a hand, a foot) that were exposed.

I'm beginning to be annoyed by Chuck's insistence to stick like glue to Ned 24-7. The part where Emerson wanted some privacy to talk to Ned about the situation and she simply refused to buzz off I found very irritating. Emerson is much more patient with her than I would be.

Re: Pushing Daisies Season 1 thread

Great news that the show has been picked up for the rest of the season. I have been watching the show every week, but I didn't have enough faith in ABC that they would support this quirky show. I'm glad I was wrong.

As far as touching the bodies in the funeral home, I am sure it was body parts that were touched while Ned walked by them. He had no reason to purposely touch any of the body bags. But then again, this is a fantasy and I am not going to try to over analyze any of this for logic.
