Re: CSI: Las Vegas Season 8 thread

Anyone else freeze frame the writer's card at the end of the episode? Basically the CSI writers were humbled by having to write a comedy (after years of writing a procedural), and hoped the same for the comedy writers trying to write an episode for a procedural on Thursday night.

That's why you have to freeze-frame it.

But you can read it here:

Well, not being a watcher of that show, I never would have known that was anything more than the usual production number/filming location/copyright blurb anyway. Plus, I didn't record the show so I had nothing to pause.

Re: CSI: Las Vegas Season 8 thread

I just saw the Two and Half Men episode. They seemed to have all the typical characterizations there, I've watched Two and a Half Men on and off. The new show title using The Who title music was a nice touch.

I liked the extreme use of the typical CSI conventions. Like the CGI shots of the anatomy, the flashback shots of how the crime could have taken place. And the Catherine parady was pretty good.

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

I just *unmentionabled* it from a *unmentionable* site for keeps. It didn't have that vanity card at the end, but I'm glad Patrick linked the source.

(I added the "unmentionable" words, they weren't edited in after the fact by someone else)

Mike, I had recorded it and didn't see it till today. The CBS website allows you to watch the episode, but on the computer. I've watched some shows I missed there, works out well, but you have to watch one commercial at the breaks.

Re: CSI: Las Vegas Season 8 thread

I thought this week's episode was only okay as it just seemed like the guest writers were trying too hard. Did Catherine's bustline keep getting bigger as the episode progressed?

Don't feel bad Phil, your news was actually new information. The news on the previous page was simply about his arrest. Yesterday, he was charged with a Felony. It was new news.

I liked the episode. Of course, I remember Cybil and Roseanne and some of the behind-the-scenes rumors and controversies that surrounded both shows, so I enjoyed watching the writers score-off their old bosses, too. I also liked some of the industry in-jokes like the studio guy not knowing (or caring) who the writers were, getting the idea for a show about "pretty people using high tech to solve crime" and the cameo by Charlie, Joh and Angus. And yes, Catherine's breasts seemed to get larger in every scene. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

But all in all I think the CSI writers did a better job writing a comedy than the Two-and-a-Half Men writers did writing a crime drama.

May favorite part of last night episode was Megan's monologue at the end describing the murder plot, in the third person, as if it were a TV show and mentioning the various contrivances writers use. “Forget it, Gil. It’s Burbank,”

I loved the episode, because it, like the two Lab Rat episodes, was pleasantly different and made the whole intense crime drama more fun and enjoyable without losing that dark aspect of it.

There was simply so much about this one I liked, I couldn't list everything. No issues here.

I loved the episode but I always like the episodes that change the pace and have a 'fun' murder case.

What movie was that plane wreckage that Grissom and Brass rode past from? It looked so familiar but I couldn't place it.

Looked like War of the Worlds (Tom Cruise version). That's what I thought, anyway.

Re: CSI: Las Vegas Season 8 thread

Well. That certainly was something.

I hadn't seen any promos for tonight's season finale...but I'm afraid to say you could really see that coming. It was pretty well telegraphed. Especially when

Warning Spoiler! Click to show
everyone said their dramatic "goodbye" in the diner and Warrick gets into the car alone...and you never see the senior guy's right hand until the very end.

Quite a dramatic season finale.

A couple of questions:

Warning Spoiler! Click to show
Why do you suppose they had Warrick acting like he was in a total stupor the entire episode? If it was that obvious (some kind of side-effect to the chloroform) why wouldn't they have given him some kind of toxicology test after the incident?

And this episode had to have been shot & wrapped before Gary Dourdan's arrest, right?! It was just coincidence that they had written him out of the show and that the actor gets arrested on multiple drug charges in real life?

I suppose it's always possible that his off-screen behavior may have been linked to his getting booted off the show...but that's not what I'm talking about.

Re: CSI: Las Vegas Season 8 thread

According to an article I read on the CSIFiles website, Gary Dourdan was back on set working the day after his arrest.

While the producers maintain that his exit isn't permanent and he will appear some time down the line like Jorja Fox is supposed to, it'll be interesting to see how they manage it.

Warning Spoiler! Click to show
or they could be lying considering the ending of the episode. He was shot in the neck first, not his head. While he could easily bleed out before any help is called, it is interesting that he was shot in a way that he could potentially survive. So he could come back and they are telling the truth.

Re: CSI: Las Vegas Season 8 thread

Can we create a separate CSI thread that openly discusses the show without the need for spoilers. We can put in the subject " warning: contains spoilers."
I would be willing to start this thread if no one else wants to do it. It will be like typical movie threads that have 2 separate discussions, so this is nothing new. Anyone for this?

Re: CSI: Las Vegas Season 8 thread

Do you have a problem reading the spoilers, Anthony? Does your browser not recognize them in some way...or do you just not like them? If so, why?

Most complaints usually go the other way: people wishing that spoilers were used because they haven't seen a particular episode yet and wish they didn't learn what was going to happen.

I think in this thread most people know not to visit the thread if they haven't yet seen the most recent episode.

I wasn't aware there will be two concurrent threads in the Movies section on the same film (one with spoilers and one without). I've got to get out more!

Re: CSI: Las Vegas Season 8 thread

Saying that Warrick was shot on the day after the episode was aired is not a spoiler.

Saying that a major actor or actress is leaving the show could easily be considered one.

If I don't want to be spoiled because I've not watched the episode yet I just don't read the thread. Spoilers should be reserved for information that is not gained by watching the show on its scheduled air date and time. My two cents.

Re: CSI: Las Vegas Season 8 thread

I agree with Michael Harris. I know you guys using spoiler tags are trying to do the right thing, but it's part of the problem to hide things that have already aired in an episode. That's always the dividing line for what is a spoiler and what is not. If it's aired, it's not a spoiler. And I'm usually one of the people who gets pissed when something is spoiled before it airs.

That said, I thought the episode was weak. I didn't believe that the chief (captain? whoever that was) would take that kind of a risk to kill warrick in the open after the mob guy and the private detective were killed. Warrick had no idea who the bad guy was. What does he gain by killing him? The only guy who might be able to finger him was the other cop whose locker they raided if they were working together. Is he still out there? I also had trouble believing that the plan to set up warrick and kill the mob guy was put into place so quickly after they killed the PI. But that one I'll more easily forgive as suspension of disbelief. I can't do that easily with character motivation issues.

Re: CSI: Las Vegas Season 8 thread

This is interesting. I learn something new everyday.

But what's the problem with reading the info as a spoiler? It's only a little push of an e-button to continue reading.

I guess I just figured if something involved a major plot development that some people might not yet be clued into, it should be spoilerized in case they didn't want it ruined.

There are still people here on the HTF spoilering the closing plot devices to films such as The Mist and Soylent Green in case there is someone out there who may not have experienced it.

Re: CSI: Las Vegas Season 8 thread

Thanks, I just wanted to be clear on this. It's okay to discuss a show AFTER it has been aired. I agree, there is no reason to discuss factors that could affect the outcome of future shows.

On that note, you could tell something was going to happen. The whole coffee shop scene was done in a dreamy, slow moving way, almost surreal. It did answer Worricks question of saying that Pritchard was just a small man, that he was convinced there was a higher up person involved. What got me was that they figured it out, and Worrick was set free, it seemed so incredible that they didn't think Worrick's life was in danger. Even Grissom dismissed the importance of finding the higher perpetrator. The bullet hole in his neck, was that to show he might still have an inkling of life? I guess it could be like Brass' gunshot, not quite so fatal. TV.com does not show anymore episodes, so that is the end of Season 8?
