Re: House season 4 thread

Actually, what I think is (likely) going to happen is that stuff with Chase & Cameron will take the place of the clinic patients who have been crowded out this year anyway.

Dr. Taub, the plastic surgeon. I just don't like him. He was the one I least wanted to make it on the team, followed closely behind by Cutthroat Bitch (who thankfully DID get shitcanned)

According to TV Guide's Michael Ausiello, House has three episodes left when they come back from the Christmas hiatus.

I hope they keep using the "13" name for Olivia Wilde's character, it marks her humble beginning on the team.
I call her Cameron House Eyes, because she's looks really close to Cameron only with House's ice-cold piercing baby blues.

Yeah, David Shore's assertions that the cast hadn't been picked yet kind of rings hollow in light of the fact that the final three are exactly who the spoilers said they'd be. Happy about Kuntner and the brunette, was hoping for a surprise with the Taub slot.
Quote:
I'm also curious what they're going to do with Chase and Cameron, now that the competition isn't the story any more and there's more room to use them. I liked the tiny bit of bitterness from Chase when talking about "the new us".
Well, Chase has a built in role as House's go-to surgeon who will do the surgeries that the older surgeon from the previous seasons won't. Cameron seems to be filling Wilson's role as moral compass as Wilson has become less of a straight man and more just another inmate in the asylum.

It all depends on their job prospects. I think Foreman's definitely sticking around since he's still on the team helping to solve cases, but Chase and Cameron have seen their roles dramatically reduced. They might work out a system where they record their scenes for episodes in blocks — four episodes at once for instance — and leave them free to pursue other opportunities in the mean time.

Re: House season 4 thread

I was rather disappointed about Cutthroat Bitch getting canned because I liked the actress. Unfortunately, they didn't give her enough to do, and she became increasingly shrill (and wrong) in the past few episodes. Which, I suppose, happened because the writers knew she was a goner.

Re: House season 4 thread

Cameron and Chase might still be there - they do have roles that fit into the series. Foreman seems a bit superfluous now that House has his team.

Loved the look on House's face after he tricked Cuddy into letting him hire 13. Pure evil genious!

Re: House season 4 thread

I wrote this on another board:

Kutner is a bad choice. He's a liability. It's stupid Cuddy recommended him given the week before she told Big Love to choose him and Amber as his picks to be voted off (House pointed out Cuddy would want him gone because he's a liability)

He's not written as a good doctor, in fact, we've only really seen him screw up. Amber might not be able to admit defeat and certainly tries to hard, but she could end up being a better doctor.

So I can't say I understand the writers decision to keep Kal Penn besides the fact he's a semi big name now - actually I would argue he's 'hot' right now cause of Kumar 2 there fore the main reason he's staying. Also I'm sure Bryan Singer put in a good word for him after he was mostly cut out of Superman (where he sucked just as much. )

Personally I hope this is all some story arc to get the original team back. House would never have been as great a show as it is now if these were the original three. I simply can't tell if this all part of the writers master plan or just signs the show is growing tired of itself.

House found its voice in the character drama, which prominently took over the original medical mystery angle. However, weak characters will lead to equally week episodes (the writers have seemingly given up on the medical part. Is anyone really that surprised anymore that a patient always gets worse buy coughing up blood every week.) as we've been seeing lately.

At any rate, the show still has my attention. I'd hate to stop watch it after all these years of great tv.

Re: House season 4 thread

Why did they fire cutthroat bitch?

The producers swear that they made the decision at the last minute, hadn't even seen Harold and Kumar and would like to find a way to bring The Bitch back. (Come to think of it, "The Bitch is Back" would be a great episode title down the road. )

For one thing, he was the only one of the finalists that wasn't a version of the original three. For another, he's probably the most likable finalist of the group. I was rooting for him from the get-go. While he's low-key and casual, he's been shown to be medically competent on numerous occasions as well as ballsy and even cunning during the game.

that's extremely debatable. I've heard the same said about Cut Throat Bitch who i preferred as a character and an addition to the cast.

I liked Cutthroat bitch the most as well (with Kumar right behind her). I also found her strangely attractive...

House's Secret Santa ruse was cracking me up. It was good to see a new episode of House tonight.

I was wondering if Cameron would make an appearance, and it was mighty short (as was Chase's).

Re: House season 4 thread

Pretty good episode tonight.

Although I knew what was in the syringe, it was still gross to see him squirt it in the girls mouth.

Was the women who performed a "donkey show" supposed to actually be a Nun? Or was she really a prostitute that was just working in the show?

LOL, my last couple of sentences are pretty funny out of context.

Last comment... Did anyone else get a feeling that the actress who plays "13" is pregnant? I thought I saw a belly on her on one shot and when she was holding that big envelope (with the vintage record in it) in front of her, it was like they were hiding something. Once I started looking for confirmation, they never showed her on screen in a way that I could tell one way or another. If she is preggers, wonder how that is going to affect the show? I guess with the writers strike killing the rest of the season it doesnt really matter.

I was so confused about this and I want a definitive answer from the producers.

She's a prostitute playing the Virgin Mary in the play.

House mentions that she gets AIDS tests done every three months and he rattles off what St. Nicolas is the patron saint of and eliminates them all except children and prostitutes.

The donkey show invitation had me thinking really dirty and the ending twist made me laugh out loud!

I don't know about that.

He does mention she gets AIDS tests done every three months - check.

There could be a million reasons she wears St. Nicolas, he assumes it is because she is a prostitute - check.

She never admits to being a prostitute. He asks, does your mother know what you do, and she replies something to the tune of I don't need her approval. Could mean a lot of things - check.

They talk about how she's in a 'donkey show' - check.

Turns out, the 'donkey show' is her bit as Mary for church - check.

Her church? Does she go around playing Mary at various churches? Is that her donkey? Does she do an obscene donkey show AND play Mary, or was it just playing Mary she was talking about?

We really have no clue what she is, why she is, or who she is. Neither does House. I actually think THAT might be the point.

Re: House season 4 thread

I am leaning toward her not being a prostitute.

There was too much subtle stuff going on. And she did say something like "check out my show" and handed him a flier for the Church play.

I think she was a prostitute who happens to be religious. It's not a drastic contradiction; Jesus was a pretty big fan of Mary Magdalene after all.

I'm also leaning towards, not a prostitute. My theory is that she may have been exposed to possible HIV and is on an every 3 month test to see if she was infected.

It's true that she's never specificially named as such in the Bible, but there's two millenia of popular tradition in the Catholic thought making the link. It's true that the Byzantine tradition has always venerated her as a figure of saintly purity, but it's hardly an open and shut case.

To avoid any controversy, let me amend my original point to words spoken by Jesus of a woman definitely identified in scripture as unchaste: "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her."

I'm pretty sure the Catholic church changed their tune on that some years ago. I don't think they even refer to her as a 'sinner' anymore.

Re: House season 4 thread

St. Mary Magdalene: Redeeming Her Gospel Reputation
Quote:
Gregory, like the much later Anthony of Padua (1195-1231) and many other famous preachers, loved to give a moral “spin” or interpretation to Scripture. How could the pope as pastor use the story of the Magdalene to encourage repentance during a time of famine and war in Rome? The seven devils morphed into the seven capital sins, and Mary Magdalene began to be condemned not only for lust but for pride and covetousness as well, just to add insult to injury.
But, the pope concluded in a sentence that rehabilitates Mary into an example of conversion, “She turned the mass of her crimes to virtues, in order to serve God entirely in penance.” Elizabeth Johnson imputes no slanderous motives to the pope, who obviously had no access to the contemporary scriptural scholarship that helps modern readers to sort such things out. The pope used the Magdalene as a “type,” a stereotype, and probably didn’t think she’d mind.
But contemporary biblical scholarship, encouraged by Vatican II and accessing resources never dreamed of in the sixth century A.D., confirms that there were several Marys. “If we go on making Mary Magdalene a prostitute when we have clear evidence to the contrary, that would be deliberate,” an intentional falsehood, says Johnson. And women in the Church and beyond might well wonder why.

Hey, it carries an imprimatur, for what that's worth. And Cecil Adams, writer of the Straight Dope agrees
Quote:
It's probably all crap. Scholars have believed for a long time that Mary Magdalene, Mary of Bethany, and the prostitute were three separate women. In some ways Mary Magdalene comes off better in this interpretation, since she's stripped of the erotic baggage and emerges as arguably Jesus' most devoted disciple, a witness till the end. But the story doesn't work as well on an emotional level. Hey, my job is popping bubbles, so consider this one popped. But writing at the remove of two thousand years, I can also say: coulda been.
