Back To You
Re: Back To You
The ring tone was awesome! Also, Ty Burrell does some great physical comedy. Last week with the umbrella in the rainstorm, this week being tased.
I thought this ep was better than last week.A couple of my other LOL bits:
Marsh pours coffee into the cup with the fish just after the discussion about how temperature extremes are bad for fish.
Kelly: I think Montana should cover the pumpkin festival.
Montana: Oops, sorry! [zips blouse to cover cleavage]
Kelly: I was talking about the real pumpkin festival.
Montana: Oh, OK. [unzips blouse to again reveal cleavage]
Chuck: And the bloodiest day in fish history comes to an end...*bzzzt* [lamp falls into fish bowl].
Uncle Joe: I'll never marry you, Selma Plout! You may as well take off that wedding dress and put it back in your Hopeless Chest!

Re: Back To You
This episode was much better than the first.I actually laughed out loud on a few occasions. Especially the Pumpkin Festival Comment and her reaction.

Re: Back To You
I really enjoyed this episode as well. I laughed out loud at the taser sequence and the ringtone.
This episode is even better than the pilot.....the show's looking like a winner.

Re: Back To You
It's nice to see a really solid traditional sitcom again. The laugh track didn't really stand out to me at all, which is probably a good sign that I was engrossed in the goings on. I was surprised to see the credit for James Burrows; I thought Hollywood agism had forced him out years ago. This episode felt like the kind of work he did on "Cheers," and his stint on "Mary Tyler Moore" can't hurt in navigating a newsroom set.At its best, the humor is smart like "Cheers" without the pretentiousness of "Frasier". As the show rolls on, hopefully the percentage of time it's at its best will continue to rise.
Re: Back To You
When you center an episode around magic tricks and dead goldfish, I can't be too optimistic about the show's longevity. But the tasering and the ringtones were funny."Jee-sus, it's like Iwo Jima out there" - Roger Sterling on "Mad Men"

I agree. I also didn't think this episode was as strong as the pilot, but they must be something something right because every time a fish died, I laughed out loud.
I like the show and plan to watch it up until Fox gives it the axe mid-season.
Re: Back To You
I doubt FOX will be too quick to pull the trigger considering the pedigree of the cast and crew, unless there's a major ratings freefall. After all, they're still hanging on to "Til Death" and kept "The War at Home" for a couple of seasons.

Re: Back To You
My wife and I lost it over the tasering. I had to rewind because we couldn't stop laughing. The rest of the show wasn't nearly as funny. It's good -- just good. Better then meh, but not great. I'll keep watching because it's breezily paced and funny enough, but I just find that it lacks... how shall I say... intelligence? Something like that.
It helps that nothing else is on.

Re: Back To You
I enjoyed the second episode - good traditional farce sitcom. The problem for me is that I can't get the separation from Frasier yet, and not just with Kelsey. Ryan reminds me of Kenny so much that I'm always expecting him to call Chuck "Doc".
Re: Back To You
I've a similar mind as Hanson, but it was the serial fish killings that got us going. But overall the show doesn't hold my attention. This one is off my regular-watch list.Re: Back To You
The First Supper episode is the best one so far.I LOVED Marsh's sports story about the Steeler's player and switching places with him and the female model he was with.
and Gary Crezyzewski demo reel was hilarious.
Especially liked the "He asks the tough questions"..."How much does this pumpkin weigh?"
Re: Back To You
Hmmmm...interesting. I was thinking just the opposite. Few laughs and I was flipping channels in the middle of the show.Uncle Joe: I'll never marry you, Selma Plout! You may as well take off that wedding dress and put it back in your Hopeless Chest!

Re: Back To You
I thought it was pretty funny and enjoyed the ep overall.Let the writers have a chance to feel out the characters and this will become a top-notch "old school" sitcom.
Re: Back To You
I missed the pilot but saw the last 2 and have been entertained. Tonight was good, but I think I laughed more during the fish episode.Re: Back To You

Ironically, this of all shows — a mult-camera sitcom with laughtrack — is what brought me back to watching Fox on a weekly basis outside of "House" Tuesdays.

"I'll be there!" "Great, it's at 7:45 am." "Ooooooh...." That conversation said so much about their characters. That her list of responsibilities would work on him, and that she knew it would work on him. I wonder how many of those activities Gracie's actually actively involved with. The "not with you I'm not" line afterward rung so true to my own mother.

Reporter: I'm here as the Mobil Mart at so and so avenues where gas prices have gone up three cents today.
*b-roll of people filling up their tanks*
*close-up of microphone in guy's face as he fills up his tank*
Reporter: How do you feel about the price of gas going up three cents?
Customer at Pump: I don't like it.
*wide shot of the reporter in front of the gas station*
"Back to you, Lydia."
... Yeah, Crezyzewski just about gets it on the mark.

That was biggest LOL moment for me on that episode
...that and the demo reel. I'm really enjoying this series quite a bit.

Re: Back To You
The best line of this past episode is when the news director says to the weather girl. "I don't know why I used the air quotes, we really did just play ping pong in the basement". or something like that. I enjoyed this show more than the previous episode.Lawn Ranger Motto: You're only young once, but you can be always be immature.
Re: Back To You
This one is going to take me awhile to warm up to. With the actors, writers, producers and the director involved I was hoping for more. So far it gets a ho hum from me.Re: Back To You
This is getting better with each episode. I like how they are giving plenty of air time to the supporting characters - I'm half inclined to think their story is more interesting than the main characters. Also good how they are actually making some use of the newsroom situation, rather than just using it as a peg on which to hang a humdrum on-off relationship comedy.Re: Back To You
the A Gentleman Always Leads episode was a little weak.I didn't laugh much.
about the only thing I did laugh at was Marsh's sex role playing things he did, where he could be overheard, due to the thin walls
and I actually found that final scene of the whole news staff talking like the Mickey Mouse guy to be annoying
Re: Back To You
I find it interesting that the episode started off with "taped in front of a live studio audience" message, or something like that.I thought the rehearsal of firing the old intern was funny. That was about it for me.

"I got the coffees..." as Bill Macy bungles past the camera after Kelsey says "...respect and dignity..."it was my first episode ever, and i'm in! LOL.

"I give in to sin because you have to make this life liveable" -Depeche Mode
Re: Back To You
It was great to see Bill Macy still kicking around. I knew I recognized him from somewhere, but it took most of the episode for me to figure out who he was. Loved how he took the tapes to the editing room..."don't be a hero."

Re: Back To You
It's still working for me. The episode was so low-key humor wise that the reason the intern was so popular actually caught me by surprise.Re: Back To You
Is "Glaucoma medicine" a US-only euphemism for some other drug? I've heard it used in several other shows before, but I still don't know what it means.I thought this was another strong episode - I hope this show is doing well in the ratings.

Marijuana reduces interocular pressure, which is one of the symptoms of glaucoma. Consequently it was briefly thought to be the source of a possible treatment. But it also lowers blood pressure, which is the last thing a glaucoma sufferer needs. Nobody takes it seriously as even a symptomatic treatment anymore, and even the medical marijuana movement has quietly dropped glaucoma from its list of diseases that pot can help with. (They're mostly back to its documented benefits in helping to overcome some of the side-effects of chemotherapy for cancer patients.)

But it still makes good comic shorthand for script-writers.

I'm kind of ambivalent about the show - it's been supplanted by Pushing Daisies on my primary DVR. But I think the girl who plays Gracie is awesome (especially after having seen her in the Sarah Silverman Program) and hope she gets more screen time.He was one of those people who would be neither a follower nor a leader, but only an aspiring heart, impatient in the failing body which imprisoned it. -- T.
