That's enough proof for me.

Hopefully, when these are finished, Spielly and Coppola will gang up on George Lucas, and make him let RAH loose on the original Star Wars films.

It is a Dutch dvd website

Doesn't mean that it's wrong, though.

Re: New restoration of THE GODFATHER heading to DVD soon?

For what it's worth, it appears that at least the first two films are undergoing restoration work definitely. The American Film Institute theater in Maryland was slated to screen parts 1 and 2 as part of an Al Pacino dedication series. I just read on their website that all screenings have been cancelled.

This notice has appeared on their website:

Screenings of THE GODFATHER and THE GODFATHER PART II are cancelled. The films have been pulled from circulation in anticipation of their restoration and re-release in 2008. We apologize for the inconvenience.

I am going to seek additional information myself from AFI, but there are no guarantees that I will learn anything.

In that case, Tony, I salute your tactics. You were thinking at a higher level than me.

Mark, if the report is true that at least the first two films are being restored by Mr. Harris, I personally can't believe that he didn't contact you first. Imagine, Paramount spending all that money restoring The Godfather, Part 2, when it doesn't need it. What are they thinking?

Re: New restoration of THE GODFATHER heading to DVD soon?

Glad to see we're on first name terms, Mike. Contact me first, what are you talking about?!

As has been mentioned, the article merely repurposes information contained in this very thread with editorial comment by the author, with no additional confimed info from either Paramount or Mr Harris....

With regard to the AFI statement and specifically restoration work on GII, it may well be in the 4 years that has passed since Mr Harris's '03 statement that work has become necessary. Alternatively Part 2 may well be undergoing standard preservational lab work, such as the creation of new intermediate film elements to create new prints at the same time as the preservational work on the first film, which I mentioned was a distinct possibility last week. They may well even be doing 4K negative scans for a digital theatrical showing, which would also require digital restorational work and clean up.

You seem to have taken my comments and observations personally, for whatever reason, I post only if I can offer clarification and to correct other posters mis-information on issues that interest me. At the time of posting all of my comments and observations were valid.

Then why did RAH do a "restoration"? ;-)

Movies are: "The Greatest Artform".
