AVAILABLE ON DVD FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER RESTORED AND REMASTERED

HANGOVER SQUARE
THE LODGER
THE UNDYING MONSTER

On October 9 Fox Home Entertainment Presents A Ghoulishly
Delightful Collection Of Creepy Classics, Just In Time For Halloween

CENTURY CITY, Calif. – With a career spanning more than 50 years with over 120 film credits to his name, the distinguished Vincent Price is known as the original master of horror. As a writer and actor, Price is known for his distinctive, low-pitched, creaky voice and his quizzical, mock-serious facial expressions seen in horror favorites such as House of Wax, The Fly and House On Haunted Hill. Before his extensive film career, his renowned voice chilled audiences over radio airwaves. Now making their DVD debuts on October 9 from Fox Home Entertainment come three creepy classics Hangover Square, The Lodger and The Undying Monster, originally mesmerizing radio listeners by Price before director John Brahm brought them to the silver screen. Each of these horror classics features the vintage radio show with Vincent Price narrating the tale, as well as commentaries, restoration comparisons and more. Based on the novel by Patrick Hamilton, Hangover Square (1945) stars Laird Cregar (Heaven Can Wait, Charley’s Aunt) as a composer who suffers from unexplainable blackouts. When he discovers the young attractive woman he has fallen for wants to steal his music, his blackouts may result in murder.
Cregar also stars in The Lodger (1942), a tale of a family suffering from financial hardship that offers a room in their home to a mysterious wanderer to help make end’s meet. But when suspicious habits come to fruition, they begin to fear this peculiar stranger may in fact be the infamous serial killer Jack the Ripper.
In The Undying Monster (1942) an inspector investigates the murderous connection of a werewolf’s relentless pursuit of a certain family. The DVDs will be available for the suggested retail price of $26.98 / $46.98 Canada. Prebook is September 12, 2007.

Hangover Square Synopsis:
A stressed out, early 20th century composer named George has been suffering from unexplainable blackouts only to regain consciousness in another town where a murder has occurred. Assured he has nothing to do with it, he takes time off to relax only to meet a beautiful music hall performer named Netta. When he discovers that she was pretending to be interested in him only to steal his music, another blackout with murderous results may be George’s inevitable fate.

Re: TCFHE Press Release: Three Vincent Price Creepy Classics

Some of us have waited a long time for at least two of these titles and I'm very happy that they're finally coming out.

Re: TCFHE Press Release: Three Vincent Price Creepy Classics

I have been wanting to see The Lodger and Hangover Square for many years, ever since they were featured in the Citadel Press book "The Films of the Forties".

These releases are so anticipated by me I feel like taking a day of to watch them.

So these are $26.98 each? That seems like alot for movies that dont even star Vincent Price .

Re: TCFHE Press Release: Three Vincent Price Creepy Classics

That's a typo. The entire box is $27.

I'm glad to see Fox is finally releasing THE UNDYING MONSTER. They don't even show it on FMC so I was worried we wouldn't see it for quite some time.

Re: TCFHE Press Release: Three Vincent Price Creepy Classics

I'll buy it since I'm eager for Hangover Square and The Lodger, but I predict that Fox will hear from unhappy buyers who will be upset that Price is nowhere to be seen.

Re: TCFHE Press Release: Three Vincent Price Creepy Classics

Including the radio broadcasts is a nice touch and most welcome. I also welcome the release of all three films which I'd like to see again in good quality.

Perhaps this package will lead to a renewed appreciation for the work of John Brahm, whose attention to facial expression, hushed voices, moderate tone, neat pictorial compositions, genre style and atmosphere, and straight-forward storytelling resulted in several memorable films. He also directed the religious allegory THE MIRACLE OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA on WHV, which I highly recommend, and several of the best episodes of The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits. There IS a John Brahm style, and it is distinctive all the way up to HOT RODS FROM HELL (1967).

It would be nice if Fox release Brahm's two noirs, THE BRASHER DUBLOON and THE LOCKET. Fortunately, THE MAD MAGICIAN is coming out in September.

Well, he is to be HEARD since two feature old time radio versions with VP but I'm still having trouble to see how Undying Monster falls into the collection since there's no radio version or mention of VP in the specs for that title. I guess there could be vintage interview footage of VP talking about the Brahm directed Mad Magician (why isnt that in this "wave?").

It's really odd to name a set or collection after somebody that doesnt even appear in the movies mentioned.

Re: TCFHE Press Release: Three Vincent Price Creepy Classics

Whoever did the press release has certainly got their facts wrong. And in fact, this set isn't listed ANYWHERE as "Vincent Price" anything; it shows up as "Fox Horror Classics Collection".

The link with Mr Price in this set of three is tenuous at best.

If Fox market this way, they are going to end up with a lot of complaints when people watch the films and find Price isn;t actually in them.

Like I said, the marketing is weird, but at least those of us that know these films are getting them at last on dvd.

I couldn't agree more Richard W, though THE LOCKET would be a Warner Home Video release surely as it was made by RKO originally - The Vincent Price marketing campaign really is a little odd but truly this is fantastic news - all three films are terrific - Brahm is well due a re-evaluation and even THE UNDYING MONSTER, which is clearly the lesser of the three, looks fabulous and is one of Fox's very few monster movies from the heyday of the genre - as long as the price really is $27 for all three this is a really good value set -

Anyone like myself who loved Fox's Charlie Chan, Michael Shayne (more please) and Moto releases (or the Sherlock Holmes releases from MPI or the Universal horror releases) will simply adore these - Can't wait!

The artwork for this release can now be seen over at DVD Times (http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=65944) - personally I really like all the covers - looks like another great archive release from Fox.

Re: TCFHE Press Release: Three Vincent Price Creepy Classics

Just received this excellent Fox three disc slimpack package but haven't gone through all the extras yet. It includes an 8 page booklet discussing all three films, as well as two lobby cards for The Undying Monster. The featurette on Hangover Square on the career of Laird Cregar is fascinating; containing much which I never knew about him.

Re: TCFHE Press Release: Three Vincent Price Creepy Classics

I'm surprised that Vincent Price's Gothic drama Dragonwyck with Gene Tierney wasn't included in this set! Perhaps they're saving it for a possible future Tierney box set, and that's one Fox leading lady who shoud be represented more on DVD.
Bring "The continuing story of PEYTON PLACE" home on DVD: the one that started it all- from Dallas and Dynasty to Desperate Housewives and Gossip Girl!!! Starting this May, see the legendary saga starring Mia Farrow, Ryan O'Neal, Barbara Parkins, and Oscar-winner Dorothy Malone on DVD thru Shout!...

Re: TCFHE Press Release: Three Vincent Price Creepy Classics

Interesting thing on the Vincent Price MGM Scream Collection is that during the credit roll they list all the discs available seperately from Fox DVD and Dragonwyck is amongst them. Either a typo or it's coming soon. I hope it is coming soon, but I have no infromation to that effect.

The inclusion of Dragonwyck would be on the assumption that the common theme of this collection is Vincent Price, which it is not, despite Fox's barmy publicity description of this set as "Three Vincent Price Creepy Classics". The actual title of the set on the box is "Fox Horror Classics" which wouldn't really fit Dragonwyck in any case.

Re: TCFHE Press Release: Three Vincent Price Creepy Classics

I just wanted to go on the record as saying that describing this set as in any way, shape or form "Vincent Price Classics" is the most misleading, questionable and downright weird thing I've yet seen in the world of DVDs. This is dangerously close to false advertising.

Fortunately they seem to have seen sense, and removed VP's name from the DVD cover-art, otherwise it would be a real case of false advertising - I for one would be very disappointed to by a 'Vincent Price Creepy Classics' boxset, it he was not in any of them.

Vincent Price's name never was on the box artwork. It was only the Press Release (top of this thread) that used his name - no doubt dreamt up by an enthusiastic but misguided ad copywriter.
