Yeah, those are my"holy grails" of the giant monster shows. Space Giants rocked also Apparently there many, many Japanese giant monster shows from the late 60's through the 70's. I wonder how many BCI has for a possible release?

I really enjoy this show also.

I'm hoping BCI continues to release these Japanese robot shows. If they do, I'll buy everyone of them.

SILVER KAMEN will be our next one - not sure of the date yet.

Re: What's next for BCI?

David, I don't know if these two obscure (though very popular in its day) science/technology programs will ever see the light of day on DVD, but I wonder if BCI could get the licensing rights to: Beyond 2000 and the Richard Hart-hosted The Next Step. For Beyond 2000, I would love to see again the Henry Tenenbaum-presented American version that aired on the Discovery Channel in the '90s, which was paired with The Next Step.

Here's more information on "Beyond 2000" and "The Next Step":

Disney/Buena Vista/Miramax: Please put Beautiful Girls on Blu-ray with bonus features and the original theatrical trailer in 1080p, and an anamorphic re-release with bonus features and the original theatrical trailer day-and-date on DVD. Thanks!

Honestly, I don't think we'd have the people in place to properly sell and/or market either of those. They are way outside of our comfort zone.

Cool. It's a fun show and John puts it over the top. Had a really good time working on that one.

I had a feeling that "Beyond 2000" and "The Next Step" might be something outside of your ability to release, but it was worth a shot to ask. Thanks for your reply. They don't make these types of quality shows anymore, and I haven't watched the Discovery Channel regularly in a decade, so it will be a real shame if these two "holy grails" of mine never get proper DVD releases.

has any info been released on this yet?

While nothing has been officially announced, we did "let it slip" at Comic-Con that one of the series we're getting ready to work on is Andy Barker, P.I.

Re: What's next for BCI?

Andy Barker, P.I. is Universal, correct?

If Universal was the one that licensed this to you, could Tom Berenger's USA Network series, "Peacemakers", be a possibility for you? It ran for 8 episodes plus the 90 minute pilot. There's a demand and it's been a long wait for a studio release.

It's still coming, but it's a slow process. It involves watching tons of episodes, having Fremantle try to find the masters (not an east task - things in the 70s and 80s weren't always well organized).

Re: What's next for BCI?

Hey, any chance BCI could import a subtitled edition this cool 7-episode German sci-fi series from the mid-1960s, RAUMPATROUILLE ORION (SPACE PATROL ORION), as they've done with Japanese shows like SUPER ROBOT RED BARON and IRON KING?

Here are some brief sample clips:

YouTube - Raumpatrouille Orion English Trailer

YouTube - Raumpatrouille

YouTube - 3SAT Raumpatrouille Trailer

YouTube - Schneller Raumkreuzer ORION Alarmstart

YouTube - Crazy Robot

Strange that this was never released in the U.S. back then, in some dubbed-and-condensed form, sold directly to TV by a company like AIP, as they did with the old GAMERA and low-budget euro-spy flicks. Anyone else here interested in seeing this show?

Re: What's next for BCI?

If Universal are licencing things out, I think it would be cool if BCI tried to get hold of Kenneth Johnson's half-season series CLIFF-HANGERS! Only ran 11 episodes (the last hour was unshown in the USA) and at least the Curse of Dracula segment had a sort of "cult" following (enough so that NBC toyed around with bringing that segment back by itself). The Secret Empire segment was a nice updating of the old Gene Autry serial "Phantom Empire" and Stop Susan Williams had a very easy-on-the-eyes Susan Anton it it. I'm sure that they could get Kenneth Johnson to do some commentaries and/or provide other extras if they wanted to give that a try.

I remember this show, I was only 9 but I remember being ticked off that The Secret Empire & Stop Susan Williams weren't finished (left with a Cliffhanger!). I'd buy it in a heartbeat, but I personally doubt it'll ever see the light of day.

Secret Empire and Stop Susan Williams were completed in the unaired final episode, which did air overseas (I have a copy of a 1981 Australian airing). In the final episode, you got the final chapter of Susan and the final two chapters of Empire.

As for it seeing the light of day again, like you, I have doubts. One can only hope that someone (like BCI, hello David?) is interested in licencing it from Uni.

Sounds interesting, but I'd say it's pretty unlikely.

I can't see any way that it would sell enough units to recoup the costs involved. Too small of an audience i think.

Re: What's next for BCI?

David,
would BCI ever consider season sets for In Search OF(late 70's early 80's)starring Leonard Nimoy?

Another early 80's show much like it was Ripley's Believe it or Not starring Jack Palance.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2iR-QjtpZQ0

I imagine both shows(especially In Search Of) would do pretty darn good in sales.

I know many people who would be overjoyed if these had dvd releases.

Probably. I think they fall into the "they would cost way more to produce than we'd make back in sales" category.

Fraidy Cat is seeing the light of day in "Frightfully Funny v2".

I would assume it is just this existing disc from 2001?

I was really looking forward to Fabulous Funnies and Fraidy Cat but have no plans of purchasing Frightfully Funny Volume 1 or 2. Any chance of the Snuffy Smith & Barney Google shorts to get a complete release like Beetle Bailey?

Well, that's certianly good news. Can't say I'd buy a 4 disc compilation just to get one disc I want. Good news for those who will, though! One dude complained in an Amazon review of one of the Super Heroes sets that there was nothing new. He'll probably be all over this one.

I wonder how or why the market has changed, all these filmation sets were churned out fairly quickly in '06 and '07 (with awesome special features, too!) and I can't imagine that the majority of them had HUGE marketing appeal, it almost seems like BCI got burned on the deal =(....With these re-compilations, and the slashed retail prices on a number of the sets. (OK, i've only noticed he-man, the other sets I noticed that were slashed weren't filmation [defedners of the earth, prince valiant]) Hopefully the original sets from which these compilations were culled from can stay in stock a few more years!

The market hasn't changed, to be totally honest most 80s cartoons have not sold well at all.

You have the few that did really well: Transformers, He-Man, Thundercats, Voltron, TMNT, early Superfriends sets and Smurfs.

You have ones that underperformed: GI Joe, She-Ra, Jem, later Superfriends sets, Flash Gordon, Archies.

You have many that really tanked: Inspector Gadget, COPS, Galaxy High, Super Mario, Bravestarr, Defenders of the Earth, Galaxy Rangers (my personal favorite) and almost everything else.

Re: What's next for BCI?

Man, i really loved Flash Gordon, Ark II, Space Academy, and Jason of Star Command. Cant say i am into buying game shows on DVD. But, i am sure someone else wouldnt understand how i could watch a 30 year old saturday morning show from my youth...and love it! Not everything from my youth still holds up. But the ones i mentioned, as well as Land of the Lost from Rhino, still work for me.
