No idea about that, but they were most certainly converted to digital (from the original 2" quads) to be suitable to play on GSN's equipment, though, of course, Feud would've had to be, too.

A lot of Feud shows were recorded onto "recycled" tapes by ABC (which originally contained Password on them). Maybe Price was recorded on fresh tape, who knows?
Congrats to David Levine and Bci for this great set.My only minor complaint is no chapter stops, can I request that if this set does well , that on the next volume you have a couple chapter stops in each show ????
One would think chapter stops at commercial breaks would be pretty standard. At least, at the commercial break closest to halfway through would be nice (on hour-long ones, after the first showdown, I guess).

My guess is that the Family Feud tapes used for the DVD were not first generation.

I wonder if it might also have something to do with being an ABC show (i.e. the equipment they used). From what I've read, the master tapes for the ABC episodes of The Newlywed Game are in terrible condition, with most of them having such poor colour that they're unbroadcastable.

Seriously?

I'm wondering if that can't be fixed in some way digitally.

Re: What's next for BCI?

I have a question about the upcoming May 6 single disc release for, He man and She ra the secret of the sword. The question is, will this single disc release include the audio commentary on disc 1 of the original release, or will it be reauthored to have just the movie ??? Maybe David Levine knows ??

Re: What's next for BCI?

David are there anymore plans to release a complete series set along the lines of Day Break.
Anything like Carpoolers (2007), Dirty Sexy Money (2007), In Case Of Emergency (2007), Courting Alex (2006), Crumbs (2006), In Justice (2006), Six Degrees (2006) or Kevin Hill (2004)

I'm not sure if it was Touchstone you got the rights from?

There won't be a Dirty Sexy Money complete series box for a while. It was renewed by ABC and will air new episodes in the fall.

Most current reviews on The Movie RamblerThe Box; Medicine for Melancholy; Sauna; Expedition Africa (Blu-ray); A Serious Man; Il Divo; Fear[s] of the Dark; The Prisoner: The Complete Series (Blu-ray); Saw VI; Amelia; The Nostradamus Files; Life After People: The Series-The Complete Season One

It's the same disc from the original release. I think I did different artwork from it, but the content is the same.

It was Touchstone/Disney.

Some of those others would be great, it just depends on if the studio would be willing to give them up and if the price would make sense.

That said, we do have another recent 1 series show coming up from a different studio - but I can't say anything about it yet.

I don't think it's an easy fix, otherwise GSN would've aired them when they had unrestricted rights to the Sony library.

Remember, it's the colour part of the signal (not the signal itself) that's at issue. In some sort of "game show" retrospective I saw recently that had NG clips, I noticed may of them were in black-and-white. Probably came from some of these ABC episdoes. NG was produced in colour from the very start, so there's no other good reason why clips should be in black-and-white.

Just looked at the art file. It has the commentary and the "I Have the Power" music video featurette.

It's missing the She-Ra documentary - that's on the other disc, and it doesn't have the art cards or the fancy packaging.

That sounds bad. But being easy and being physically possible are two separate things.

Quite true. In fact, colour has been restored from a B/W source videotape at least once in the past (on the R2 Goodies episode release: "Come Dancing"). They "picked" the colour out of the embedded subcarrier signal (or something like that).

However, if it would be in Sony's (or anyone else's) financial interest to try to undertake colour restoration, is anyone's guess.

Odd, though, that The Dating Game episodes from the same period don't seem to be similarly afflicted, as many '60s editions have aired on GSN before.

Re: What's next for BCI?

would Celebrity Sweepstakes (1974) or Password (1961) maybe even $10,000 Pyramid (1973) ever be possible contenders for release?

Pyramid is a Sony show, so that's not likely. Password is a Goodson-Todman show, but there's a lot of missing tapes from the '60s version (the majority of the B/W daytime run, as I recall). No idea about who owns Celeb Sweepstakes, but assume it would all depend on rights.

David has said before that G-T was the only game show company that they were working with right now, though, so it's probably not likely to see anything other than G-T shows for awhile, and you can forget about anything owned by Sony (which includes Bob Stewart, Barry/Enright, the Chuck Barris library, the Reg Grundy library, Heatter-Quigley and anything else they bought up over the years). Why? Sony (like Warner) are a "closed shop" who don't like to licence things out.

Re: What's next for BCI?

Did Sony buy the Reg Grundy formats? I thought those were at FremantleMedia now. Sony seems to own every game show company but that and Goodson-Todman.

Y'know, now that you say that, I'm not completely sure whether it's Sony or Fremantle. I do know that David had said before that their current agreements only extend to Goodson-Todman properties, though.

GSN haven't been able to reach any kind of agreement to get the Grundy shows on their network so far, so I think the likelyhood of DVDs are probably even more remote.

Re: What's next for BCI?

Every time I walk into a store, and see the Price Is Right,I want to purchase it,but can't bring myself to do so.That's mainly due to the fact that there are no episodes with Pennington,Parkinson and Hallstrom.I think that Bob Barker had more of a say,as to what episodes were on the DVDs,than what has been let on.Can anybody say anything that would change my mind, and lead me purchase the set?

The episodes ranging from 1972-1975 have Pennington. Also, there are 2 1975 hour long episodes with Parkinson. But, no Hallstrom episodes.

Re: What's next for BCI?

I bought Super Robot Red Baron. Oh..my...gosh! This is probably the coolest giant Japanese robot show I have ever seen. It's really Zany, but the storylines draw you in. 5 Super agents(the female agent is amazingly hot) battle the evil Iron Alliance, and Dr. Deviler with the help of their giant robo. 39 half hour episodes(the complete series) make this a worthy purchase. Each episode is more fun than tv should allowed to be.

I also have Iron King, and Bravestarr vol. 2 on order. BCI makes me happy

It's awesome isn't it?

We watched the first episode of it at the office and just got hooked right away. It's all kinds of crazy.

After the 1st episode, I couldn't stop smiling. It's just so fun. I'm about 3 episodes in, but I want to take my time to watch it, because a series this cool is a very rare thing

Re: What's next for BCI?

So was there a problem with The Match Game set? I picked it up at the DDD sale, and it just showed up today. When I put the first disc in, my player had trouble getting past the FBI warning and the BCI logo bumper.

I'm like "Hmmm, bad first disc - oh well, we'll put on disc 2 instead". Same problem. Annoyed, I tried disc 3 - same thing, stalling out on the FBI screen. ANd of course disc 4 died in the same place, too.

Now one bad disc I could see - it happens. But all four at once? Very unusual. It's not the player, because every other disc I play works just fine. So - was there a bad batch of discs? Am I just wasting my time returning the set to DDD?

I got the Iron King complete series yesterday.

I really enjoy this show also.

I'm hoping BCI continues to release these Japanese robot shows. If they do, I'll buy everyone of them.
