David, TVShowsonDVD's latest story on the Price is Right set says the first episode Bob hosted is included, but that included a fur. Are they wrong?

I'm pretty sure his first episode is on there. If it contains a fur, the producers must've made an exception because of the importance of the episode.

Re: What's next for BCI?
David, is there any chance of finding an episode list for the Price is Right DVD Set?I think all of us are curious how and if any older-era episodes will be included due to the fur situation. In addition, we've heard news about "The Best of Family Feud" DVD Set in a couple of press releases. Is there any ballpark release date for this set, and any information on what standout episodes will be included?
Thanks much,
Doug

Could the first episode be edited to remove the fur? Are we assured that there are no cuts?

I'm not sure. I wasn't very involved in this set. It's not like Match Game or All-Star Family Feud where its easy to list the episodes based on who appears.

Not yet. I think it's going to depend a lot on how All-Star FF does. "Best of" is going to be a MUCH harder sell because it doesn't really have a hook. My personal preference would be to do a 2nd "All-Star".

Haha, I can envision it now...
Bob: 'Here is the first item up for bids on the New Price is Right!'
Johnny: It's a *censor beep and pixelation over the coat*
Bob: 'And that *BEEP* coat will go to the one of your four...'
It makes me wonder: If only 1 fur coat episode is allowed, and supposedly no episodes with Holly, Dian or other classic models are allowed, how is this going to truly be a "Best of" Price is Right? Just from those two stipulations, the episodes to choose from is narrowed down immensely. On the other hand, why would a great company like BCI bother releasing the set in the first place unless there was something worth purchasing on it...
Regarding All-Star Family Feud, I was surprised to find that the Game Show Hosts special was not included in the set, considering there were pictures of it in the 4th Disc Photo Gallery...Then again, I don't think "Leslie Uggams" or "Bert Parks" is as marketable as "Richard Simmons" and "Doris Roberts"

This is what will make me pass on this. Either its cut, or not, but then how can you have Bob saying no furs, and yet, here is a fur, or it was cut. And none of THE big models, the girls i grew up watching will be on it? I dunno, seems like a pass for now. Also only 4 discs? Is this a 2 sided thing? Cause if it is, i will never buy it. I wont do double sided discs again...ever! Not after my Universal problems.

We use DVD 9s for all our game shows.

Thank you David! I hope you will add DVD 9 to all your shows. Space Sentinels had been the only double sided discs i had bought from BCI, but that was before my Adam-12 bit the dust. No trouble with Space Sentinels, but my Adam-12 worked fine the first 2 years too. I like to have a place to put my fingers when i am sitting the disc back in the case. Also at 44 my eyes are not getting any better with small print!

Enough of my OCD, what is new on the non game show front for BCI?

Re: What's next for BCI?
When requesting episode listings, the most important thing would be the years represented I think so as to know what eras are present and if they are evenly distributed amongst time. I would prefer older shows than the last couple years, most fans probably would too, I think. The only episode I can single out as wanting is when both contestants won the Showcase. I have a feeling the episode Vanna White was a contestant on might be included, maybe the one with Ox Baker.I read of a blooper of Holly's on wikipedia and I would like to see this episode:
Quote:
| During the end credits of an episode from season 10 (10/16/81), all of the models were dancing to Kool and The Gang's classic 1980 hit "Celebration". At the end of the credits, Holly had a wardrobe malfunction and ran behind announcer Johnny Olson. Bob stepped in front covering her behind his jacket as everyone (including Holly herself) had a good laugh. |
My mother just died yesterday she was looking forward to watching the old shows and she liked Holly a lot, me too, first game show crush, only game show crush. She was also looking forward to Tammy on DVD coming February 5th. She did enjoy the Match Game set and I thank BCI for that.

Whoa, I think you're jumping the gun, here. Unless I missed something, the only stipulation that David mentioned was "no furs." No one, to my knowledge, has said anything about an actual embargo on Holly/Dian/Janice, have they? I only remember someone asking if there was one, to which there was really no definitive answer. Why don't we wait and see, first.
If, however, there is an embargo, that would be really sad, as I'm sure most people buying the set are going to expect to see at least a few shows with the three most famous models on there together.

I won't even preorder it unless I know for sure. Like I said earlier, Dian and Holly were missing in the "Come on Down" book.
Here's the whole gang in happier times.

I also found this quote on Wikipedia:
When asked in a USA Today interview about the four most famous Beauties, Barker replied, "They've been such a problem. I don't want to say anything about them. They're disgusting; I don't want to mention them." However, Barker has had praise for the more recent models, including Lanisha Cole, Phire Dawson, Brandi Sherwood, and Shane Stirling, calling them "the best models we've ever had." -- William Keck. "The time is right for Barker", USA Today, 2007-05-14. (sidebar: "Game Show Family Had Its Share of Losses, Turmoil")
Yikes! I sure hope he didn't ban them from the dvd. I would think that there would be a list of the episodes on the DVD since its close to the release date. Even airdates would help.
"Congratulations. You're still in the running towards becoming America's Next Top Model."

Well, again, the only "ban" that David at BCI mentioned was furs offered as prizes (though if Bob's first show is being included, they must've gotten an exception for that one), so let's remain cautiously hopeful!
If there were such a ban, I think it would have such a negative impact on potential sales that BCI probably wouldn't even take the risk (I know that I certainly wouldn't)

Wonder what memories Bob has of Anitra Ford, who along with Janice, was one of the original models, and who also did not file any lawsuits against Barker or the show (Anitra left in 1976, long before Barker personality, as many think, got out of control).
My own two cents: If the episodes are mostly from the '70s and '80s (i.e. accounting for more than half of the set), then I'll get it. If, on the other hand, if it is mostly culled from "post Holly" shows (mid '90s to 2007), then I will likely not purchase this. Let's hope that BCI kept the focus where I'm sure many fans think it should be: on the '70s and '80s.
The fact that five shows come from Bob's final week in '07 (which anyone could've recorded from TV at the time) are enough to make me wait until I hear exactly what is included on this set.

Re: What's next for BCI?
This is what I know.We have 4 Bill Cullen episodes, 3 episodes from Bob' first week, his entire final week and the rest are from the early to mid 70s.
I would guess that depending on how this set sells and how that influences the producers, future volumes could move into the 80s.

Re: What's next for BCI?
According to Wiki, the most popular and longterm models reigns are:Janice Pennington (1972–2000)
Dian Parkinson (1975–1993)
Holly Hallstrom (1977–1995)
Kathleen Bradley (1990–2000)
From your listing we will see Janice and there is a chance of Dian but but I think Holly might not be present and Kathleen most certainly not.
I want Holly. If you can't get her here because of Bob, on future Match Game collections, could you please try to include episodes with her in them for fans and mention it on the box?

Well I agree that one set would not be enough to do it justice. I wish it could be one set each for each decade. I hope it sells well.

Well, if the only ones from the "modern" era are the five from his final week, count me "sold!"
Too bad we're not getting all five from his debut week (to mirror his "final five"), but as has been said before, probably due to furs.
If the rest are from the early-to-mid '70s, I would guess that we're just probably talking 1972-75, which would mean probably no Holly, Dian or Kathleen, who are the ones that Bob seemed to have the biggest gripe against, anyway. Don't remember hearing him having anywhere near that much "ill will" towards Janice, and since she was there from the start, you can't really have any '70s episodes without having at least Janice on board.

Not the type of episode distribution I expected.

Re: What's next for BCI?
Scott, most sites say this set has a running time of 930 minutes. If you divide that by 26 episodes, which will be on the set, itll be an average running time of 35 minutes. So its kind of hard to tell with that average of 35 minutes, if the bulk of the set will be the half hour programs, or the 1 hour .Now, if it was an average of 40 minutes, id definitely say yes, its the 1 hour versions.

The bold statement above got me thinking about something I saw on the web awhile back, and it makes me think that BCI did not get an exception to the "no fur" embargo for the first show. If you visit The First Five Price is Rights! Show #1 and The First Five Price is Rights! Show #4 (aired), you will notice that two of the first five aired shows featured furs, shows #1 and #4. I know David originally said the first show was on there, but when he later said three shows from Bob's first week, it makes me think we're getting the 2nd, 3rd and 5th-aired shows from Bob's first week, not the first one.
I'd think if they could've gotten an exception for the first one, they'd have been able to get one for show #4, too, so that they'd have his entire first week on there.
Still, it seems to be mostly '70s, so count me in! Let's just hope that some later '70s/early '80s stuff can make it next time (hopefully, they won't have to have Bob's approval).

I would say you are probably right about the shows from the first week. I've only seen a handful of the episodes, but my favorite is one of the Bill Cullen ones. I won't ruin it, but the showcase prizes had me crying from laughter.
