The Disclaimer
Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

"LP" in the RoundUp table means a store’s Sunday flyer says "Low Price". That means I could not locate a definite price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, as always, Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii.

Thanks, Mike and Patrick.

I'll be adding to my Simpsons collection this week with season 10 (Bart head, to go along with the other heads on my shelves) and I'll finish my Saved by the Bell collection with the double-feature disc of the two made-for-TV movies (not in the RoundUp), which is in the $14.99-15.99 range at the usual suspects.

A warning about the $9.99 Northern Exposure season 1 and 2 sales - these are the double sided discs that were later replaced by a combo "Season 1 + 2" single sided disc set. So if you get these double sided discs, best to test whether they are defective.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 8-7-2007

HERE'S a pretty good deal at Amazon.com. 60% off off a select group of titles of celebrity film collections.

Most of these are these rather recent release celebrity "three-packs" of the likes of Cameron Diaz, Colin Farrell, Denzel Washington, Natalie Portman, Drew Barrymore, Angelina Jolie, Michael Douglas, Jennifer Aniston, Nick Cage, Schwarzenegger, Clooney, Martin Lawrence, and Sandra Bullock.

But there are also a couple of gems:

For example:

The Gary Cooper MGM Movie Legends Collection for $15.99 (The Cowboy and the Lady / The Real Glory / Vera Cruz / The Winning of Barbara Worth)!

There are also collections featuring Chuck Norris, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Peter Sellers, Errol Morris, Sidney Poitier and Pam Grier.

The Man With No Name Trilogy is listed on the page...but only at 25% off.

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

Yes, both seasons were the puffy parka editions.

I went to CC and picked up From the Earth to the Moon, Signature Edition, but it was not easy to find. There was no display for it or any of the others priced at $21.99. I finally found one copy From the Earth to the Moon in a box, and there was no one around to help me. It makes me realize how much I hate Circuit City.

Right there with ya. I went with a friend tonight to CC and we unsuccessfully scoured the store for "From the Earth to the Moon." They have to have the worst method of displaying titles and the most brain-damaged way of arranging them. My friend was not seeing any rhyme or reason to how titles were organized, not helped by the fact that some titles were out of their proper sections -- last I heard, "Babel" is not a comedy. I explained that it was in alphabetical order, more or less, starting at the upper left bin and working *down* one column then started again at the top of the next. And you have to look through everything in each bin because what's in front is not usually the only title in that bin. Best Buy doesn't make you handle everything to figure out what they've got.

Also, while I found a couple of the titles I was looking for in the box marked $3.99, most of the titles I found were on the floor, mixed into the regular inventory, with no sale prices tagged anywhere. It definitely pays to go in with a list in hand -- and thank you, Patrick, for providing that list!

BTW, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the "Manchurian Candidate" that's part of this sale was the Sinatra/Harvey original, not the recent remake.

All in all, some nice additions to the collection, both this week and last, but I wish it weren't such a trial to go into their stores!

Re: Weekly RoundUp 8-7-2007

Just a word to everyone searching for From the Earth to the Moon:

This is a title which has seen an overall price reduction. You can also find it at that $21 pricepoint in wholesale clubs like Sam's, BJs and Costco (providing, of course, that you have a membership and a store nearby).

Wal-Mart had the Divinci Code and Gridiron Gang both at $9.99 yesterday but sadly both were FS editions so I didn't get them

Re: Weekly RoundUp 8-7-2007

I always find it interesting...but inexplicable...that if a title has separate OAR and MAR releases and finds itself in a Wal-Mart discount bin or a $3.99 sale at CC (for examples) that it is almost always exclusively the MAR'd version that ends up in the sale.

Why is that?
