EDIT!!! TV has arrived Panasonic 50"

I'll be buying my first plasma in about 3 weeks and I have to decide between the following:

1. Panasonic TH-42PX600U

2. Pioneer PDP-4270HD PureVision 42" Plasma HDTV
http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-PDP-42...5726477&sr=1-6

3. Samsung HPT4254 42" Plasma HDTV
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-HPT425...726453&sr=1-21

4. Pioneer PDP-4360HD

They are all 42-43" plasmas with tuners and under $1500 with shipping.

Re: Whch one of these plasmas would you choose?

If you can stretch your budget by $100 more, you can get the Panasonic TH-50PX75U, and 50" plasma model. Vann's is offering a free wall mount, too.

Win cool stuff: Oppo BD Player, Panasonic Plasma, $200 in movies or gear:

Re: Whch one of these plasmas would you choose?

From you choices, I would pick #1.....howsomeever, I agree with Patrick. You'll be amazed how fast a 42" plasma can shrink. When I purchased my 42" PDP the 50" alternative was $4K more expensive. Less than 10% over budget is nothing in the world of HT. Good luck with your new toy whichever you choose.

PX600U is last year's model. Go with the newer one as mentioned.

If it's not worth waiting until the last minute to do, then it's not worth doing.

I'm moving up from a 32" sony CRT so I think the 42" plasma should be good enough. Also my living room in only 12' deep with couch and tv stand that is about 10' effective viewing distance. Wouldn't a 50" be too big? $100 is nothing if you really think I'll out grow the 42" too soon. So the panny is the one most would recommend? Thanks for the input.

Re: Whch one of these plasmas would you choose?

I replaced a 27" tube with a 42" PDP sitting a measured 7 feet from the screen. It "seemed" huge.....for about six months. I'm glad I designed all my stuff to accomodate a 55" PDP which was the largest at that time. You lose the immersion factor pretty quickly with the smaller display. Get the 50" Panny....you won't be sorry nor overscreened. JHMO

Re: Whch one of these plasmas would you choose?

Mort's right -- when I went from 31" to 55" at a distance of 9 feet or so, it was magnificent.

But within a year I was wondering whether I should've gone for the 65". . .

Re: Whch one of these plasmas would you choose?

I have a 50" plasma, and I sit about 9.5' away. Sometimes, I think I should have gotten the 58" plasma model, instead.

Re: Whch one of these plasmas would you choose?

OK I got the 50" Panny today!!!! It is freaken huge!!! Ok now I need some help on the best way to set it up. My old system includes a Onkyo TX-SR573 reciever, Dish Network Satelitte, and a Sony DVD player. To my knowledge nothing is HD. The 50" Panasonic is replacing a 32" Sony CRT. I had the old tv set up through the receiver using S-Video. It looked great. I just swapped out tv's and set up the 50" with the S-Video too and it looks horrible. I know it is not the best video source. I do have any HDMI out puts on the reciever. I guess I'll just have to go with component. Is that the best way to set this up or can somebody give me some other options? Thanks.

Re: Whch one of these plasmas would you choose?

Do you a Digital Video Essentials or Avia DVD? Use one of them to adjust the image settings.

Alternatively, any DVD with the THX logo (I think most Disney and Pixar discs do) will include calibration tests that will help.
