Interesting article about record preservation

Given the recent discussions on vinyl and record players, I thought some of you might enjoy this article about a physicist who created an image scanning system that can digitize a record without having to physically play it. I came across this on the listserv for the Society of American Archivists-

Re: Interesting article about record preservation

On the one hand Irene sounds like it's a few steps beyond the Laser Turntable. On the other hand, it seems less likely that I'll get my own Irene than even the BIG $ Laser Turntable. Hot dam, I wish Irene would dub my beat up, original mix Allman Brothers Band, S/T album into a nice listen for me!

Well, maybe there will be a home version someday...?

Rachael, the big disc cat! I used to be looking for Hi-Vision Laserdiscs & D-Theater tapes, now I'm looking for HD-DVD's and Blu-rays.

I survived the AFI top 100 Film Challenge! I've seen them all.
