Ok i have been reading through some posts but most seem to be about lcd or plasma..

i am trying to stay under 2k and have about 10 - 12' to my TV.. I use a PS3 for my blue ray and am a video game junkie as well..

I think i have narrowed down my choices to either

Toshiba 57HM167 or Samsung but i am unsure what the difference is between the HLT5687S or 5689S..

Any one have any opinions on either of these or any other suggestions and why? I am leaning he toshiba as of now ..

Thanks in advance

I came across the following differences:

The -89S series has:

Re: 56"/57" DLP ?

thanks for the reply and info..

still leaning the toshiba i guess.. I have had PIP on all my tvs and never used it... LOL

from what i have researched the .3 is in the audio compression and true hd audio adn the way that signal is processed i have my sound coming out of a rotel 1057 not the TV.. ill deal with optical there... unless i am wrong.. ?

Re: 56"/57" DLP ?

I'm not sure if this may influence your decision, but Toshiba has discontinued manufacturing all RPTV's. You may have difficulties with future warranty issues if you choose the Toshiba.

Re: 56"/57" DLP ?

greetings

Samsung has more tweakability ... but the Toshiba is more bang for the buck.

More memories on the Samsung ... so go that way ... unless you have no roomfor more money ... then Toshiba for the bang for buck.

Re: 56"/57" DLP ?

Greetings

More memories is a reference to professional calibration friendliness. YOu can customize it for different signal types ... better than the Toshiba.

On the Toshiba ... you can optimize the image to one source ... say your DVD .. then you cross your fingers and hope HD material is close ...

Congrats, David!

I just got home from Sears, where I discovered the 65HM167. Please post how you like the set when it's up and running.
