The Disclaimer
Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

"LP" in the RoundUp table means a store’s Sunday flyer says "Low Price". That means I could not locate a definite price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, as always, Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii.

Best Buy has an online-only offer on "noir" titles including the new BULLET FOR JOEY, KANSAS CITY CONFIDENTIAL and WOMAN IN THE WINDOW. Buy two, save $10 which will bring them down to $9.99 each. I put "noir" in quotation marks because it also includes BALL OF FIRE (?) and THE ADVENTURES OF MARCO POLO (???).

Re: Weekly RoundUp 7-10-2007

Thanks, Mike and Patrick. Better week for releases than the last couple, but still not much for me.

For new releases, just Home Run Derby Vol. 1 for me this week. I'm seriously considering South Park the Hits at CC for $12.99. I have all the season sets, but that is the only way to get the original Spirit of Christmas short on DVD. Is that worth $13? That's the question.

I forgot I wanted to highlight this release this week. Oh well, better late than never:

I don't know exactly what's featured on Volume 1...but it is 240 minutes long...according to amazon.com. And here's their description:

Quote:
A fascinating spectacle from baseball history, Home Run Derby: Volume 1 is culled from a weekly, syndicated television program that was produced from 1959 to 1961 and pitted Major League Baseball sluggers against one another in a home-run duel. Essentially, one American League and one National League player would take turns at bat in Wrigley Field, where the Pacific Coast League's Los Angeles Angels regularly played. The hitter who sent the ball most often over the wall (at 340 or so feet) in nine "innings" would win a now-paltry-looking $2,000; the loser would get $1,000. Smaller cash incentives were there for the guys who got on a roll and whacked the ball out of sight three or more consecutive times. The charm of the show is in its simplicity, and the way it seems both relaxed and tense. Competing players such as Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Ernie Banks, Hank Aaron, and Jim Lemon were far too seasoned and professional to take the program seriously. On the other hand, when they're at bat, you can see something in their eyes: they get down to business and every swing is a mighty one. The best element in the show is player interviews (with host Mark Scott, seated at a desk not far from home plate) that take place while one or another fellow is trying to get some wood on the ball. Thus, it's really a pleasure to see Mantle serenely assess his own performance or admire that of Mays or Banks. The same is true of the latter pair, and also of Aaron and Lemon, who are so gentlemanly in their appreciation of one another and so humble about their own talents that their episode is actually moving. The four segments on Home Run Derby: Volume 1 are minor gems. --Tom Keogh

Home Run Derby: Volume 2 will be available August 14, 2007.

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

Here's the run-down...found in this Newsday review.

Quote:
The first DVD, coming out July 10, holds eight episodes, including the first: Mickey Mantle vs. Willie Mays. Mantle appears in four of the eight, which also feature Ernie Banks, Harmon Killebrew and other top swatters.

The second set (out Aug. 14) has eight episodes, five with Hank Aaron.

The third volume (out Sept. 25) includes Mays and Mantle again, adding the likes of Gil Hodges and Rocky Colavito, as the competition reaches its big finale.

I picked Home Run Derby: Volume 1 at Target tonight for $9.99!

Watched episode 1 as soon as I got home. Terrific!

Re: Weekly RoundUp 7-10-2007

Alias was a great blind buy, and $20 for season 1 you couldnt go wrong! I burned through the first 2 discs in one sitting. Seems a few others felt that it was a great deal too, i got the last one at BB. Thanks Ric, and if anyone else was on the fence, go get it.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 7-10-2007

I was in Target today and noticed that the Shark Week set they are selling lists a Target exclusive bonus disc is included (something about "Sharks Hunting Humans"...) No info on the package as to what it includes or a running time.
