Re: iPhone - so...what's the deal?
I arrived at the Freehold Mall at 2:30pm EST
There were 70+ people on line in front of the Apple Store.
Around the corner, at the AT&T store, there were only 10 people.
Couldn't understand why there was only 10 people but I got on line
and the manager is assuring us that we will get one in a little over
2 hours.
Even at 4:30pm the line at the A&T store is less than 30. Must
be close to 100 in front of the Apple store.
Pretty cool site here. Many of us have our Macbooks out and
are typing away madly on the internet.

Re: iPhone - so...what's the deal?
Nah, only buying one phone.
4:30 now and only about 35 people on the AT&T line compared
to about 100 people on the other side of the Mall at Apple. That
makes sense about the 1 per person limit.
AT&T just closed their doors. They are setting up for the onslaught.
We have been told that you need a credit card to activate as
there is (I think) a $40 fee. The activation is done online.
I am getting all this information second hand from the manager
but the phone comes with its own dock and a USB charger (not
a wall charger).

Something like
this would take care of that.

Re: iPhone - so...what's the deal?
Craig,
Is it just at the Apple stores? I'm at AT&T (with 20 minutes to go)
I am getting the 8GB version. For $100 more...why not?
Last entry. Battery running low.

Re: iPhone - so...what's the deal?
Got it. Only 15 minutes on the line.
I'm activating it now. Had to first download the newest version
of iTunes.
So far things are going well. Unfortunately, I'm charging it
up tonight and working tomorrow so I won't have any thoughts
till late tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon.
If I can sneak a photo tonight I will.
Update: Phone activated. iTunes already picked up all my configured
email accounts (mac and POP3) and is transferring them over to the phone
including contacts, calendar and photos. The entire activation took under
10 minutes.

Listen...It's late and I have to be up early for work.
Would a blurry picture with my fingerprints on the device do okay?

Yes, transferred Verizon information. You will need your Verizon account number.
You are told that it may take up to 6 hours to be transferred. You can make calls
but not receive.
Signup was so damn easy. Took mere minutes. The synch was just like an iPod synch.
Will have more for you all tomorrow afternoon...plus, I am sure that there are others
who will be chiming in.

Re: iPhone - so...what's the deal?
Quick thoughts....
Shitty speakerphone. Sounds very "tinny"
Calls sound reasonably good when next to ear.. Nothing great.
Email looks amazing! First time I ever saw email displayed
so well on a phone.
I am hooked into my home WiFi and the Internet loads very
fast and looks amazing. You browse with your fingers, tapping
and enlarging.
I even like the keyboard. The very first time I used it I was
typing pretty damn fast with minimal mistakes. The keyboard
is not hard to learn.
I need to turn in for the night, but just a few minutes using this
and I am already in love. On the surface, the phone is that good!
