Re: Weekly RoundUp 5-22-2007

This deal probably won't last until Monday morning, the Circuit City website has The Matrix Complete HD DVD collection for $19.99, and it's been this price for the past hour, but the orders will most likely be cancelled in the morning, but you never know...

Well Just bought the Toshiba A2 and I have Smokey and the Bandit and Iwo Jima coming so Although there's a Bunch of SD Classics I want they may wait awhile. One thing this week's list shows is it pays to wait for TV On DVD, $22 for 24, $18 for the Shield and Mash, $25 for Smallville, god I wish I waited. I will from now on.

More about price, not quality. I have the other 4 seasons, but may hold out when the price goes down in the future. Plus it's a big week for new releases.

Definitely. I got the first four seasons of Smallville for $14.99 each during the holiday sales last year so, in comparision, that makes this week's sale price of $24.99 for S5 seem a bit steep. I think I can wait until the next holiday sales.

Same with a lot of those $3.99 DVD's. The studios set these price points, then wonder why people aren't willing to spend $20 on a new release. If you wait a few weeks, they'll practically be giving them away.

Thanks as always Mike & Patrick.

Definite: Battle for Iwo Jima (5-disc set) (see below)
Considering: A few of the John Wayne titles (still undecided)
Redbox list: Apocalypto and Epic Movie

Thanks for the heads-up on this deal Bob. I just ordered mine for $28.26 including sales tax ($34.98 - $3.50 B&N Member Discount - $5.25 15% Coupon + $2.03 Sales Tax). Code W6X3N9C did not work for me - I received a message stating that it was expired. I used code R4J6J7P for the 15% discount. This is really a great deal for the 5-disc set. I was looking at $20 (at least) just for Letters from Iwo Jima 2-disc set. Thanks again.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 5-22-2007

I was hoping for some better deals on Letters from Iwo Jima. I had already picked up the 1-disc of Flags of Our Fathers. I was disappointed by that film...but have higher hopes for Letters.

Anyway, I don't want to spend any more money on Flags...but will want to make the blind buy of Letters.

If Letters lives up to its hype, I'll be pleased to have the two-disc set. But if I'm disappointed by Letters, it will be one of those situations where I actually wish they were having simultaneous 1-disc and 2-disc releases to get me a low price point on the one disk release!

Any sign of Rio Bravo at Costco? And the only extra stuff in the CE is the comic, lobby cards, and press book, right?

Black Friday is TV on DVD day. Last Year, Target had practically every Fox show on sale for $16/ season. I stocked up on 24, The Simpsons, and Family Guy.

For anyone curious about the plethora of John Wayne releases today..and what is new vs. what is a re-release vs. what has a new transfer vs. what extras are featured in what release:

See THIS THREAD over in the Software section explains it all.

Aaron: We must have been on the same wavelength because I had actually typed the post about the John Wayne software thread and forgot to push the "submit" button as I had gotten distracted.

Great minds, and all that.

As a $2 bonus for your helpful prescience, note that Amazon is now listing the John Wayne Century Collection at $72.99, not $74.99.

That's like the fourth or fifth price drop this week for amazon.com. It's getting hard to keep up.

Well I got Pirates 1 & 2 Blu-ray from Circuit City and made out better then I thought. I didn't even realize what happened until I checked all the paper work. But instead of a $15 gift card for both the gave me a $15 gift card for each movie.

I would actually buy them for that. Trying to find out how widespread this mistake really is. I even have two CCs I could try, but I think I'd feel pretty bad if just the one (as is correct) rang up and I then said, "nahh, changed my mind," before going to the next CC.

I should have Pearl from Netflix today though. I'd have had them both by now, if the mail hadn't been so slow last week.

I'm shocked that Circuit City is allowing folks to get 1 of the sets for the mistake price (and cancelling additional sets ordered at that price).

Re: Weekly RoundUp 5-22-2007

I got the Ocean's Eleven and Twelve 2-pack for 11.99 at Circuit City (price sticker on the 2-pack, so cashier adjusted the price from $14.99), so less than $13 bucks out the door for both DVDs plus a ticket to see Ocean's Thirteen. Not too shabby!

DAMMIT! Walmart here has all the new Bond releases for $7.50, but they don't have TWINE. I'm really beginning to hate that place. Stuff like this always happens. I bought the first 2 seasons of NCIS there, but come release time for season 3, they didn't have it. bastards. Happens at CC/BB too though. Neither one had Thunder in Paradise the day it was released, but Walmart did. Go figure.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 5-22-2007

I went to Wal-Mart last night. I was looking to see what their prices were on Apocalypto, Letters from Iwo Jima and Can-Can.

No Can-Can (not too surprised by that).

But Apocalypto was a solid $19.99 and Letters was $24.99. I walked away empty-handed. You never know when you might walk into another Wal-Mart and find prices $3 to $4 lower than its neighboring sister store.

Thanks. I've got the 2-disc SE of The Searchers (as well as the original release). Maybe I'll just snag Rio Bravo at CC.

Just a heads-up: I spotted the John Wayne Century Collection at Costco for the front-running price of. . .um. . .I think it was $62, but it might've been a buck more or less.
