That's good news - I hadn't seen any announcement about that. What other titles are being released in this batch?

Re: Films of the 1970's on DVD

Warner just released 1973's Kennedy Assasination conspiracy drama "Executive Action" as part of the Burt Lancaster Collection last month. It is available separately, as well.

Payday is now available (picked it up about a week ago) it's well worth checking out and if you like Rip Torn well worth owning. Makes a great double bill with Nashville!

Now, where is "The Friends of Eddie Coyle"? Long overdue for release on dvd!

Also, what happened to "The Kremlin Letter", announced and then nada...these films are too good not to be available...

Re: Films of the 1970's on DVD

I have to add Alan J. Pakula's trilogy of paranoia:

Klute(1971)
The Parallax View(1974)
All the President's Men(1976)

Yes I know they are all on DVD but worth bringing up anyway.

Add to that:

Vanishing Point (1971) Also on DVD

Duel (1971) not sure if its still in print.

Showtime's Flix channel is airing Wise Blood several times in February, starting this Friday at 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time. I know it doesn't mean a DVD release will automatically follow, but maybe it's a good sign when a rarely broadcast film starts turning up on television again.

I thought I'd mention I picked up a great book on films of the 1970s called "The Stewardess is Flying the Plane" the other day. Well worth picking up for fans of this period. It's hardcover and only $2.99 at Borders as I think they are getting rid of them.

The Outfit was a great movie. I believe that The Parallax View is out on dvd. I am hoping for Purple Hearts with Ken Wahl on dvd. I believe it was made in the late 70's.

Yes, The Outfit gets a mention in the book and a nice photo of Baker and Duvall as well. It's been a fun book to sit in the hammock and read with a tall cool adult beverage this summer. It's disappointing that so many films from this great decade are still unavailable on dvd. Although looking through the early lists in this thread several of the missing films are now available which is great. There is another thread cooking here about Paramount titles and Legend, Criterion, and Paramount themselves will hopefully get some of these titles out there. Also that new "Martini Movies" line looks great and gives us some hope.

Damnation Alley (1977). First announced by Anchor Bay in 2002 through a deal they made with Fox then mysteriously disappeared. Then Fox wanted to release it themselves. Still waiting.

Pakula and his DP Gordon Willis were not finished with paranoid thrillers yet. Although made in 1981 Rollover has that special 1970s vibe. A sleeper then and now. Audiences couldn't connect with a story about corrupt Wall Street brokers and international bankers bringing the nation's economy to the brink of disaster. In 1981 the film was paranoid speculation. Today, it's a documentary.

Several films from the above lists have now appeared on Region 1 DVD. This has been a pretty good year for these catalog titles.
